St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Altoona, PA Passion For God, Compassion for God's People We believe that God’s love was made visible in our world through the life Jesus lived and the things Jesus taught.

We try to continue his work in our own time and place. Our weekday and Sunday worship services and our outreach ministries to the community are dedicated to doing just that. Ours is a welcoming community built on inquiry and forgiveness. Passionate about our faith and commitment, we are diverse in our opinions and open to learning from those who may be different from us. Like Anglicans of old, we have a shared worship and ministry that holds us together.

Today, September 1, is The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

This ecumenical celebration, founded by the Eastern Orthodox tradition, has become the starting point of the Season for Catholic, Anglican (including Episcopalians), and Protestant churches. These traditions have begun discernment over adding a Major Feast on this date to our liturgical calendar, tentatively called the Feast of Creation, and the Episcopal Church General Convention in 2024 resolved to engage in this work. It's a great day to go out into Creation in a prayerful spirit of readiness to encounter the Creator, maybe even to get a little wet, as this year's theme is "Immersion in Living Waters".

St. Luke's will be celebrating the entire Season of Creation from today through St. Francis' Day on October 4. We welcome all to join us for any of these upcoming events:
The "Pollution to Solution" film series and resource fair, a free event at The Devorris Center Downtown, 1431 Twelfth Avenue, Altoona, from 2-4 p.m.,
Our monthly Work, Eat, Pray event on Saturday, September 26 from 9 AM-Noon at Mt. Etna Station,
and, of course,
Our 1 p.m. Sunday services during this time, where we will be using special readings and hymns. The service on September 13 will be at Valley View Park and followed by a potluck lunch.
