June is holiness month! Having celebrated the Lord's resurrection, His ascension and sitting at the right hand of God, and the outpouring of the promised Holy Spirit upon the apostles and disciples, we prepare ourselves for the continuation of the apostolic mission to the whole world. Our individual calling as members of the body of Christ, to "put all things under His feet" (1 Cor 15:25), begins with our own preparation through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The Apostles Fast, one of the most ancient fasts in Christianity, begins on the Monday after All Saints Sunday (June 8, 2026) and ends before the feast of Sts Peter and Paul on June 29. While this fast is somewhat less restrictive than other fasts, it is no less important. St Paul writes, "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord," (Heb 12:14). Let us undertake this fast with joy, seeking the holiness that only comes from being "made partakers of the divine nature," (2 Pet 1:4) so that we may share the saving Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, the message that He has overcome the ruler of this world though His incarnation, passion, resurrection, and ascension, and has freed us not only from death for eternal life, but from the enslavement to the things of this world as members of His Kingdom.
