They Are Looking For Something

Yesterday I wrote about the importance of sharing our faith with others. Today, I thought it might be a good thing to explain why that is so important.

After Christ’s time on earth was done, the Apostle Peter surfaced as the leader among the followers of Jesus. As their leader, he wrote a letter to them about how to live a Christian life in a time and place where doing so was unpopular. As part of his letter, he gave this piece of advice:

1 Peter 3:15
“...always (be) ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you...”

Here is what that means: It means that you are on display.

On display? Me?

Yes, you. When you call yourself a Christian, people hear that and they watch you. They’re looking for something. Some are watching to see if you fail. Others are confused and they want to know what being a Christian means. Others are cynical and they are looking for your faults so they can throw stones and point fingers.

But, there are also searchers. There are people out there who really want something that is missing in their life. They need something but they don’t know what it is.

You and I know, though. It is hope. People want hope in their lives. They want to know that there is something better out there that they can grab ahold of to help them climb out of their despair.

They live in darkness and they are looking for light. Now, here’s the freaky part. Are you ready?

You are that light.

Were you expecting that? It works like this: When they see the light that is in you, they see that there is hope. You have to be ready to help them. You are their lifeline to faith. You are their light.

So, here is your question for today: can you do that?

What will you say when that person comes to you asking you for help? Tomorrow, I’ll help you put those words together.
