Your donations at work in Nepal. ❤️

Earlier this week, MCC provided generators to support rescue and relief efforts from the fooding and mudslides in Nepal. Currently, there is a great need for generators as rescue camps are operating without electricity and communication systems. We continue to pray that this first step in MCC's response will go a long way in supporting the families impacted by this disaster.

Thank you for your continued support to MCC's response to the flooding in Nepal. Your gift today will provide food, water purification tablets and trauma support to those in need. https://mcc.org/get-involved/giving/designations/nepal-flooding-response

Elephant’s Foot: A Story Woven in Tradition

This exquisite coverlet showcases the artistry of traditional Hmong reverse appliqué, featuring the beloved Elephant’s Foot pattern.

More than a beautiful design, this time-honored motif symbolizes the interconnectedness of family and the strength found in mutual support—values beautifully reflected in this exceptional piece.

Generously donated from the estate of Jeanette Flaming.

A peaceful space for healing 🐴

For 8-year-old Iryna*, therapeutic horseback riding at Reimer Center’s stable in Uzhhorod, Ukraine, has been transformative. Iryna and her mother were displaced from their hometown by the war. They live with the aching uncertainty of family left behind and if their community is still standing. Caring for and riding this horse has brought Iryna a sense of balance and peace.

Zakarpattia is in western Ukraine and borders Slovakia and Hungary. It is currently the safest area in the country. It is now home to approximately 125,000 people displaced by the war, including 37,000 children.

MCC partner the Reimer Center is supporting families in two ways: either meeting urgent, daily needs like food or supporting healing through a psychosocial rehabilitation program. As one of MCC’s church partners in the region, the Reimer Center shares God’s love and care through emergency relief.

Earlier this summer, we asked you a few questions. Here are the results!

1. The name of this book.
Nailed it! YES! The More-with-Less Cookbook!

2. Your best guess as to the publication date of the copy in the photo. (Although separated from the rest of the book, we have the page!)
Masingila came the closest with a guess of 1986! The copy in the photo was the Thirty-Fifth Printing, July 1987.

3. Your best guess as to why we are making this post now.
Yes, many of you got it! This year is the 50th Anniversary of the MWL Cookbook. A 50th Anniversary Edition is coming. We look forward to celebrating with a few surprises (to be announced soon!) at the Oregon Mennonite Relief Sale in Albany, Oregon, on October 10. Event: https://www.facebook.com/share/1EZ5TkTi7v/

In the meantime, you might want to join Menno Media's photo contest for a chance to win a FREE copy of the new edition coming this September.

They are looking for photos in the following categories:
1. Most-Loved Recipe Page
Mine would probably be Honey Baked Chicken, as the page is turning yellow from curry splatters!

2. Held Together with Love
As you can see from the photo, I LOVE my cookbook which was a birthday gift from Nana and Popi (Normal and Ethel Lind) , but I'm not so sure that it's being held together very well. 🙃

3. Your Go-To Recipe
Which recipe do I return to again and again? There are so MANY of them!!!! And I'm still discovering new ones! Which is your favorite? Comment below!

Each year, our friends at Eugene Mennonite Church partner with the community to assemble school kits. They recently boxed up 1000 kits for the sixth year in a row. Approximately 40 happy people helped out each day. We are fortunate to have such supportive communities contributing to the work of Mennonite Central Committee - MCC.

Want to assemble your own? This is a great time to purchase school supplies! Learn more and see the content list here: https://mcc.org/school-kit-challenge
