Today is known as “Silent Saturday” because on this day in Holy Week, Jesus had died and was buried. His followers felt devastated and confused. But for us, today can be full of excited anticipation because we know the full story.

We have excited anticipation because we are going about our day knowing tomorrow will be awesome.

We hope you’ll join us for our Easter service at 10 am. Grab some coffee, say hi to someone you don’t know yet, and get excited because the beat is going to drop.

It’s Good Friday. On this day, Jesus was arrested, mocked, beaten, betrayed and killed. Why is it called “Good”? While that first one was a very terrible Friday, every year since has been good because we know the rest of the story. We know the transforming power that happens on Sunday.

We live with hope because of that power. Even in the trials we are faced with, we can have endurance because of the hope and trust we have in Jesus. Every story we live is transformed because of the power of the cross on Friday. That was true yesterday, and it’s true today and tomorrow.

We hope you’ll join us for our Good Friday service at 7 where we’ll have guided prayer stations and worship. We’ll pray and worship because of the transforming power of the cross.

It’s a GREAT Friday to worship together.

*Childcare is available for preschool kids and younger. We’ve been intentional to create a service experience that includes even our elementary aged kids*

Thursday, in the narrative of Holy Week, is the busiest day. It ends with Jesus in the upper room with His disciples at, what we know as, the Last Supper. Jesus establishes communion and washes His disciples feet.

What happens in communion is Jesus gives us symbols of His broken body and shed blood, and He tells us to keep practicing these things. When He washes His disciples’ feet, He’s showing that He loves them, and to the very end. And this act of love was received in a variety of ways by the disciples.

Jesus gave the command, to His friends and to all believers to follow, to love one another. That means we’re really supposed to love our fellow Christians—in all places, all the time. Jesus loved without controlling the response, and that’s something we can lean into and live out.

On Wednesday of Holy Week, tensions in the city were high and Jesus knew what was ahead in the coming days. Yet there’s nothing said about what happened on this day. We know from what’s recorded about His years of public ministry that Jesus was intentional to get away for solitude and prayer to connect with God, especially when there was chaos and noise.

Jesus chose presence. You can do the same—take a moment to be where you are. Breathe. Experience quiet. Be in your space without outside input. Notice where the noise is coming from and choose quiet. Connect with God.

On Tuesday of Holy Week, Jesus returned to the temple. He was asked a variety of questions—some in bad faith, where they were trying to trap Him, and others with genuine curiosity. Jesus didn’t enter the space in a self-assertive way. Instead, He let the questions reveal something about the person asking, and His response revealed even more about Himself.

Through it all, Jesus knew God was in control. Everyone else might have experienced confusion, but Jesus didn’t.

When things feel confusing and chaotic in your life, you can lean into the trust that Jesus had in God’s plan, and trust that God is in control.

When Jesus entered the temple and flipped the tables, it was because of the way the money changers were taking advantage of those who came to worship, therefore corrupting worship. It meant Jesus flipped their system of worship. Everyone was uncomfortable in that moment—the money changers, the disciples, the people who had traveled to worship.

If Jesus is flipping tables today, what do we do with our discomfort? Can we lean into it?

What could Jesus be doing in our world that makes us uncomfortable? That makes you uncomfortable? Are you willing to lean into it and live into that question, and ask God to flip tables in your life? Are you willing to be so loved by God that He’ll flip tables in order to bring you into worship through the way you live and respond to Him?

We’re spending this Holy Week to help you orient your mind and heart toward our Good Friday service and Easter service.

When the crowd welcomed Jesus, they believed He was the king and had expectations for what that meant: rescue from their suffering and oppression. But Jesus came to rescue the from something even bigger than they understood. What might you personally need rescuing from? What do we all need rescuing from? Lean into the promise that Jesus can do more than we can ask or image—as we saw through the story of Palm Sunday.

This year we’re walking through Holy Week together. From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, we’re making space to remember Jesus, grow closer to Him and celebrate the joy of knowing Him together.

Throughout the week there will be simple ways to participate:
•TOGETHER EVERY DAY
Videos each day from Pastors James and Aaron to help you focus on Jesus throughout the week, as well as a Holy Week guide for families (kind of like what we did for Advent).

•TOGETHER TO REFLECT
A Good Friday gathering where we remember the depth of Jesus’ love and respond in worship and prayer.

•TOGETHER FOR JOY
A church bowling party to laugh, connect and enjoy the goodness of God and the community He’s given us.

•TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE
We’ll celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the hope of new life!

Whether you’ve been a part of The Grove for years or are just getting to know us, we’d love for you to be a part of Easter Together.
