Are the divisions between Buddhist traditions as clear-cut as we sometimes assume?
Join us for the 27th Annual Bloom-Futaba Memorial Lectures, featuring Rev. Dr. Aaron ShĹŤken Proffitt, on Sunday, November 8.
In “Re-Thinking the Western View of Buddhism,” Rev. Proffitt will explore how our understanding of Buddhist traditions has been shaped by history and modern scholarship. Drawing on the teachings of the 13th-century Japanese monk Dōhan, he will challenge familiar assumptions about the relationship between Pure Land and Esoteric Buddhism.
Dr. George Tanabe, professor emeritus at the University of Hawaiʻi, will serve as respondent.
