Albany Buddhist Sangha A growing Buddhist community in Albany, NY. Meetings: Tues. @ 6:30PM
21 King Ave. Albany, NY 12206

There was something for everyone at last Sunday’s service — kids and adults alike.

With guest minister Rev. Dr. Aaron Shōken Proffitt from the Albany Buddhist Sangha, we explored what it means to live in community — not just as a nice idea, but as something we actually need.

All ages gathered as Rev. Proffitt shared a story through a kamishibai storytelling stage. He then led the adults in meditation, inviting us to experience something central to his message: we don’t just value community — we need it. Multple doorways into the same truth: we are shaped, supported, and awakened together.

🕊️ All are welcome. Come as you are.

Namo Amida Butsu! We had a large group of sangha members participating in this year’s Capital Pride Parade! Mahayana Buddhism is about the idea thatt all beings can achieve awakening. Amida Buddha represents the potential for all beings, as they are, to awaken to limitless wisdom and compassion in this life. Community activism is about creating space for all to find their path to the Dharma. Namo Amida Butsu!

What is Amida Buddha? (Part 1)
If you're new to Buddhism or seeking to understand more about the central figure of the Buddha's Pure Land teachings, Rev. Todd Tsuchiya provides a clear and accessible introduction, and explores the deeper meaning of Amida Buddha, not as a deity, but as an expression of boundless wisdom and compassion that welcomes all beings to liberation.

Rev. Tsuchiya's insights reveal how Amida’s presence offers reassurance and guidance, making Buddhist practice more approachable and meaningful.
