“Who Do You Think You Are?”
John 10:22–30
Last Sunday’s message reminded us that Jesus never needed people’s validation to know who He was. His works spoke for Him, His purpose spoke for Him, and His relationship with the Father confirmed His identity.
Jesus answered them,
“I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.” — John 10:25
The message challenged us with a powerful question:
Who do you think you are?
We heard the illustration of a janitor working in a hospital who was constantly overlooked and judged because of his position. People assumed they knew who he was based on what they saw on the outside. But when an emergency happened, he stepped in and saved a man’s life by performing CPR. Later, everyone discovered he was actually a fully trained doctor waiting for his credentials to transfer.
People judged his position while completely missing his purpose.
And church, that is exactly how many people treated Jesus.
They saw a carpenter’s son, but He was the Savior.
They saw a man from Nazareth, but He was the Messiah.
They saw ordinary, but He was the Great I Am.
And many times, people will do the same thing to us.
They will judge your past.
They will judge your struggle.
They will judge the season you are in right now.
They will judge where you come from while completely missing where God is taking you.
But this message reminded us that when God has called you, chosen you, and changed you, you cannot build your identity on people’s opinions.
Jesus understood rejection.
He understood misunderstanding.
He understood loneliness and doubt.
Yet through every accusation and every question about His identity, Jesus never abandoned His purpose because He knew exactly who He was.
And if we are going to survive in this world today, we must know who we are too.
People may question your growth.
People may question your transformation.
People may question your calling.
But your identity must be rooted in God’s truth, not people’s approval.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27
Know who you are in Christ.
Walk boldly in your calling.
And let your life speak for itself.
