🐟 **God Is Calling… Are You Running?** 🐟

Have you ever felt God calling you to do something, only to think, *“Maybe I’ll just… go the other direction”?* 😆

Well, Jonah did exactly that.

And somehow, he ended up in the belly of a fish.

**So there’s our running joke for this Bible study: God has called us to such-and-such… and if we don’t go, well… we might end up in the belly of the fish.** 🐋😂

But seriously, I’m **really excited about our upcoming study of Jonah.** Jonah is a short book, but there is *so much* packed into it—God’s calling, our resistance, obedience, mercy, repentance, and the surprising ways God works in and through us.

I truly believe **everyone who comes is going to get something out of this study.**

This week at Holy Spirit, we had the joy of celebrating a Deacon’s Mass, with Deacon Joy leading us and sharing a wonderful, relatable homily from Romans 12.

Joy reminded us that following Jesus isn't something we simply do on Sunday morning. We are called to live our entire lives as a “living sacrifice”—allowing God to transform us and using the gifts He has given us to serve Him, one another, our families, and our communities.

And perhaps one of the most encouraging reminders was this: God has given each of us gifts, and no gift is more important than another. From the person preaching the sermon to the person quietly serving behind the scenes, every gift matters in the Kingdom of God.

So this week, ask yourself:

“God, how do You want me to use the gifts You've given me?”

“God, what did I miss?”

We are all part of God's restoration work. Let's go out this week ready to be His hands and feet wherever He calls us. ❤️

For those visiting our page, a 'Deacon's Mass' is our traditional Anglican term for a service of Morning Prayer paired with the distribution of Holy Communion previously consecrated by a priest. In the ADGL, our ordained deacons are fully authorized to lead these services and preach the homily. We are grateful for Deacon Joy's faithful message!

⛪ Church Family Update: Joining Together in Fellowship! ⛪

On Sunday, September 6th, our congregation will be on the road! Due to the Labor Day holiday weekend and a break in our supply clergy schedule, we will not hold services in our building.
Instead, we are having a "Corporate Parish Visit" to worship alongside our brothers and sisters at St. Luke’s!

📍 Where: St. Luke's (3810 Ridgewood Rd, Copley)
⏰ When: Sunday, September 6th at 10:00 AM

We would love for everyone remaining in town to gather there so we can worship together as one diocesan family.

🔄 BACK HOME NEXT WEEK: Please note that this is a one-week fellowship visit! We will be right back in our own sanctuary for our regular service the following Sunday, September 13th.

You are not the main character. (And that is the best news ever!)

**What if the person we’re trying to keep out is the person God is trying to bring in?**

This Sunday, Fr. Dan Morgan challenged us with a simple but uncomfortable truth:

**“You’re not the root.”**

We are branches—sustained by Christ, grafted in by grace, and blessed so that His blessing can flow through us to others.

That changes how we see church.

We aren't the owners of God's house.
We aren't the gatekeepers of His mercy.
And we weren't blessed simply to be comfortable.

**We are blessed to be a blessing.**

The Canaanite woman in today's Gospel reminds us that Jesus' mercy reaches beyond the boundaries people create. Isaiah reminds us that God's house is to be a house of prayer **for all people**. And Romans reminds us to remain humble, because it is the root that sustains us—not the other way around.

So here's the question for us this week:

**Who might God be asking you to make room for?**

The neighbor who feels forgotten.
The person whose story is messy.
The coworker who keeps struggling.
The person who doesn't look, think, or worship like you.

Instead of asking, *“What did I get from church?”* perhaps we should be asking:

**“How can the grace I've received become good news for someone else?”**

Don't just receive the blessing.

**Give it away.**

🌊 **From Awkward to Awesome**

What do you do when life feels unsettled—when the storm is bigger than you expected, the future is uncertain, and you’re not quite sure where God is leading?

In Sunday’s sermon, **The Rev. Kelly Irish** took us into the story of Peter stepping out of the boat and onto the water.

Peter didn’t step out because he had everything figured out. He stepped out because Jesus said, **“Come.”**

And sometimes faith looks exactly like that.

Rev. Kelly shared how God has taught him that the goal isn’t always to get from an awkward situation back to a comfortable one. Sometimes **God is teaching us to find the awesome right in the middle of the awkward.**

Because the storm can make everything else look bigger—our fears, our doubts, our uncertainty.

But when we put **Jesus between us and the storm**, we begin to see Him for who He really is.

> **“When you put Jesus between you and the waves and the wind and the storm and whatever it is, you see Him for who He really is and you walk in awesome.”**

So here’s the question for us this week:

**Where might Jesus be saying, “Come,” and asking you to step out of the boat?**

Maybe it’s a relationship.
Maybe it’s a change you’ve been resisting.
Maybe it’s an uncertainty about the future.
Maybe it’s simply trusting God with something you’ve been trying desperately to control.

Don’t wait for the storm to disappear before you trust Him.

**Ask: “Lord, if it’s You, tell me to come.”**

And when He speaks…

**Step out.** 🌊

The same Jesus who met Peter in the storm is still with us today.

Thursday – Nothing Can Separate You

"Nothing... will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." – Romans 8:39

Circumstances change.
People disappoint us.
Plans fall apart.
Our emotions rise and fall.

But one thing never changes:
God's love.

There is no hardship, failure, fear, illness, or uncertainty powerful enough to separate you from Christ.

Not one.

When everything around you feels unstable, anchor your heart in what can never be shaken.

Reflection:
What fear would lose its grip if you truly believed nothing could separate you from God's love?

Prayer:
Jesus, help me rest in the certainty of Your unfailing love today.

Wednesday – The Wilderness Is Not the End

"Jesus withdrew to a desolate place..." – Matthew 14:13

We often think of the wilderness as a place where God is absent.

Scripture tells a different story.

Again and again, God met His people in the wilderness.

He provided manna.
He gave water from the rock.
He strengthened Jesus.
He fed thousands in a deserted place.

Sometimes the place that feels empty is where God wants to show Himself most clearly.

Don't mistake your wilderness for God's absence.

It may be where He is preparing your greatest testimony.

Reflection:
Could your current struggle be an invitation to experience God's faithfulness in a new way?

Prayer:
Lord, help me see Your provision even when life feels dry and uncertain.
