The Augusta Film Festival, SC Interfaith Harmony Month and Adath Yeshurun of Aiken Present….

SHTTL
It is 1939, in a Jewish village (shtetl) in Soviet Ukraine, across the river from Eastern Poland, which is occupied by N**i Germany. We witness life in the shtetl over a 2-year period, as it changes “ownership,” and as the various factions of people interact (the Hassidim, the less religious, those who are pro-German, pro-Soviet, pro-Czech). Who are these villagers?

A riveting drama and excellent black-and white-cinematography. In Yiddish and Ukrainian, with subtitles.

Today, there are no such villages in existence; the production fully reconstructed a traditional ‘Shtetl’ outside of Kyiv, On September 1, 2021, principal photography on the film had wrapped. The set was to be turned into a museum, but now remains inaccessible due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Sunday, January 28 @ 5:00
Pizza, popcorn and drinks provided.
Donations appreciated.
