CCMMG's Resource Center Director Darlene Hunter coordinated showers and laundry services for clients via a Shower Up Mobile Unit at Hope Plaza in Columbia. To ensure that clients were prepared to take full advantage of the services, prepackaged toiletries were also provided. Thanks to Darlene and her team for making this response to need possible!

Thank you, CCMMG Keepers of the Word Director Catherine Nelson (seated), for your leadership in bringing the Native American tribes together and giving us the opportunity to celebrate the Living History of Indigenous Peoples.

Living History of Indigenous Peoples was held at Mission Lake in Gaston, SC on October 22-24. Visitors of all ages had the opportunity to “step back in time” through Native American history experiences. Programs included:
--Cultural demonstrations
--Traditional crafts, cooking, and music
--Storytelling and oral history sessions
--Games
--Costume and ceremonial displays
These experiences help connect visitors to the living traditions of Indigenous peoples, not just as historical figures but as ongoing cultural practices.

Also, following the Point of Distribution class, CCMMG Columbia Executive Director Sylvia Mickens (not pictured), Resource Center Director Darlene Hunter, President Renée Stewart, SC State Guard 1LT Daniel Starkey, and EMD Logistics Manager David Perry conducted a joint readiness assessment for Hope Plaza.

Following the Point of Distribution class, CCM’s CEO Jimmy Jones (C) shared stories of Mission Lake with 1LT Starkey (R) and CSM Lamont Christian and Daniel Greene (L) representatives of the Big Red Barn Retreat Center.

As part of Emergency Preparedness Planning, State Guard 1LT Starkey facilitated a dynamic Point of Distribution class today at the CCMMG Columbia Community Missions HUB. He was joined by David Perry (seated right), Logistics Manager within Operations Support at the South Carolina Emergency Management Division. This class will be offered next in the Aiken, Graniteville, and New Ellenton Mission Stations on November 10. If you are interested in joining us, send an email to [email protected]

CCMMG Director Rob Rosche kicked off his board meeting this morning at the Wagener Mission Station. Members discussed near-term and longer-term plans for community missions. If you are interested in volunteering, some of the open spots include interviewing clients, transporting food/clothing, and arranging donations. Now is the time to join the team!
