Update from our missionaries, Lee & Michelle concerning Bible College and greenhouse ministry in Africa.
Recently, Lee and I traveled to Malawi for graduation. As always, it was a joy to celebrate with the 90 seniors as they completed their studies at African Bible College and prepared to go out into the world as leaders and change-makers for Christ.
This year, however, we were especially excited to see the progress that had been made on the greenhouse project.
We are delighted to report that both greenhouses have been fully restored. The team from Small Farm Cities Africa, who have partnered closely with our Malawi team on this project, eagerly showed us the results of their hard work. The first greenhouse was filled with tomato plants, while additional vegetables had been planted around the outside.
When we arrived at the end of May, the team was preparing for the first harvest. We gathered together to hear an update on the project and to thank the Lord for His provision and blessing. Then we visited the greenhouse—and what a sight it was! It was overflowing with some of the healthiest and most beautiful tomatoes we had seen in a long time.
As I spoke with our Head of Hospitality, I asked what impact an in-house supply of tomatoes would have on the college kitchen budget. His response was remarkable: he estimated it could reduce that portion of the budget by as much as half!
We also asked about the second greenhouse. The team shared that they were preparing it for another planting of tomatoes. By rotating production between the two greenhouses, the goal is to maintain a year-round supply.
