天福宫 Thian Hock Keng

天福宫 Thian Hock Keng Thian Hock Keng is one of the oldest and most important Hokkien temples in Singapore managed by SHHK. The construction of Thian Hock Keng was completed in 1842.

Thian Hock Keng is one of the oldest and most important Hokkien temple in Singapore. It was visited by Chinese immigrants giving thanks to Ma Zu (Goddess of the Seas) for their safe voyage. In 1839, under the leadership of Mr Tan Tock Seng and Mr Si Hoo Keh, the Hokkien clan built the temple in Telok Ayer Street. It also housed the clan's office and served as a meeting venue. The details of the temple’s history are recorded in granite tablets on the wall inside the Entrance Hall. There is also a plaque inscribed with the words Bo Jing Nan Ming (Gentle Waves over the South Seas) presented by Qing Dynasty Emperor Guang Xu in 1907, evidence of the temple's stature. The temple was built in traditional southern Chinese architectural style. The entire structure was assembled without nails. It is an architectural masterpiece of stone, tiles and wood, dragons and phoenixes, amazing carvings, intricate sculptures and imposing columns. Thian Hock Keng, which is managed by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan was gazetted as a national monument in 1973. Over the years, Thian Hock Keng has been restored several times. The most comprehensive one commenced in 1998 and was completed in December 2000. This restoration project won 4 architectural awards, including the most prestigious award from UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage 2001 Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation Building.

Big thank you to all participants of the Maritime Thian Hock Keng Drawing Fest! We are delighted to see overwhelming response and incredible creativity showcased in every submission.

To ensure that the competition was judged fairly and comprehensively, judges carefully evaluated every submission based on multiple criteria, including completeness of the artwork, artistic techniques, creativity, adherence to the competition theme, and overall presentation. The judging process took longer than expected as the overall standards of the submissions were exceptionally high. Many of the artworks demonstrated remarkable creativity, effort, and artistic skill, rendering the selection process a challenging one. We thank every participant for making this event such a meaningful celebration of art, heritage, and the rich maritime history of Thian Hock Keng. Your enthusiasm and creativity have made this Drawing Fest a great success!

城隍爷，原中国神话中守护城池的神，后来发展为掌管阴阳的神祗，司人间善恶记录及亡灵审判，监督人鬼善恶正邪，奖善罚恶、生死祸福，功过分明，可说是公正无私的阴阳两界县太爷和法官。

天福宫内的城隍身着红色金蟒袍，形象尊贵，是最高级掌管京都大都会的王爵级都城隍。城隍两旁助理官吏，一人辅助记录善恶生死溥，一人负责宣判善恶赏罚。

天福宫将于农历五月廿八（7月12日，星期日）喜庆城隍爷诞辰，并恭请资深道长于上午9时和11时主持法会。欢迎各位善信前来天福宫，祈求合家平安、事业顺利、消灾解厄。

Cheng Huang Ye (City God) was originally a deity in Chinese mythology who guarded city fortifications. Over time, he evolved into a God who governs both the realms of the living and the dead. He is regarded as a just and impartial judge of the two realms.

At Thian Hock Keng, the City God wears a red robe adorned with golden dragon motifs, symbolising nobility. He holds the highest rank governing the capital metropolis. Flanking the City God are two assistant officials: one records the good and evil deeds as well as the life and death of individuals; the other announces judgements and delivers rewards or punishments.

Thian Hock Keng will be celebrating the birthday of City God on 12 July (Sunday) with Taoist rituals at 9am and 11am. Devotees are welcomed to join us to seek blessings for peace, protection and good fortune.

⏰晚上8时左右，天福宫将首次举办“钻轿脚”仪式，让善信亲身参与祈福纳祥。钻轿脚是妈祖信仰中具代表性的祈福仪式。善信将可在妈祖绕境巡安回銮之时，俯身从妈祖神轿下穿过，寓意接受妈祖的庇佑与加持，祈求消灾解厄、平安好运。

🙏This Saturday (9 May) is Mazu’s 1066th birthday and Thian Hock Keng will be inviting venerated Taoist priests to lead devotees in praying for peace and harmony.

🙏The Mazu’s Excursion for Peace will kick off at 6pm. We welcome all devotees to join us to witness this grand, momentous celebration!

⏰At around 8pm, Thian Hock Keng will be organising the “Humbleness Ritual” for the first time, allowing devotees to personally take part and pass beneath Mazu’s palanquin to seek protection, blessings and good luck.

🙏妈祖诞前夕（5月8日，星期五，晚上8时），天福宫将恭请资深道长带领善信过“万安桥”，祈求万事如意、顺遂平安。本宫将备有过桥补运金纸，欢迎善信踊跃参与。

过桥后还可获赐“天上圣母”符印盖于随身衣着物品补运。无法亲临的善信可请家人携带随身衣着物品代为盖上圣母符印，祈求消灾解厄、趋吉避凶、福寿康宁、前途光明。

🙏On the eve of Mazu's Birthday (8 May, Friday, 8pm), devotees are welcomed to cross the Bridge of Million Blessings to overcome hurdles and seek blessings for a brighter path ahead.

After crossing, devotees will be blessed with the Mazu seal (天上圣母符印) on their back. Devotees, who are unable to attend, can seek assistance from family members to bring along their garment and belongings to be stamped and blessed.
