OBITUARY of SR MARY CHUA, FMM

Sr. Mary Chua, FMM of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary has returned to the Lord on 11 June 2026. She was 90 years old.

Sr. Mary Chua Kwee Choo was born in Singapore on 12 September 1936. She entered the novitiate of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in Singapore on 13 June 1958 and professed her perpetual vows on 13 June 1961.

Her first mission was to the neighbouring country Malaysia specifically to St. Francis Convent in Petaling Jaya, where she remained there for 8 years. Whilst there, Sr. Mary was involved with the Young Christian Students Movement and catechetics. In September 1969, Sr. Mary undertook the Montessori training in London where she was equipped with the tools of a preschool educator. A year later, Sr. Mary was sent to France for language study.

Sr Mary Chua was a parishioner of St Bernadette's for many years, and participated fully in the life of the Parish. Amongst them, she was a long time choir member of the St Cecilia (Chinese) Choir. She stayed with her community at Bukit Ho Swee and ministered to many in the area.

Her body is resting at Maris Stella Convent, 49D Holland Road and her funeral Mass will be at the chapel next to the convent on Monday, 15th June at 2.30pm.

Eternal rest grant unto Sr Mary O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon her.
May Sr Mary rest in peace. Amen.

SOLEMNITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI

Fr Aloysius highlights the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) as a celebration of Jesus truly present in the Eucharist. He emphasizes that the Eucharist is not just a ritual but an encounter with a person—Jesus—who nourishes and strengthens the community. This gift extends beyond the Mass, transforming believers and sending them out to bring hope, compassion, and love to their daily lives.

Congratulations to Our Newly Commissioned Ministers!

We extend our warmest congratulations and blessings to the Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers who were commissioned on Sunday during the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, as well as those who renewed their commitment.

The Parish is deeply grateful for the dedication and devotion of everyone serving in this sacred ministry. Through their beautiful service, they ensure the distribution of the Body of Christ at all our weekday and weekend Holy Masses. Furthermore, their ministry extends vital comfort and grace to our homebound parishioners, bringing Holy Communion directly to them in person.

𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙎𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙨 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝑬𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙢 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝙂𝙤𝙝, 𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙈𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 40 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙆𝙆𝙄𝙎 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨.

Congratulations to all 40 candidates who received the Sacrament of Confirmation. As you are sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, may you continue to grow in faith, courage, and love, becoming ever more faithful disciples of Christ.

The celebration did not end with the Mass. Over a shared meal, conversations, laughter, and photos, we were reminded that the Church is more than a place we gather, it is a family to which we belong.

As St Paul teaches, “We, though many, are one body in Christ.” Each person is uniquely gifted, yet we are united as one community, journeying together in faith. To our newly confirmed brothers and sisters, remember that you do not walk this path alone. Lean on one another, stay connected to the parish community, and continue to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in the years ahead.

Thank you to Archbishop William for celebrating this special occasion with us, and to all who helped make the day a joyful one.
