📖 REVELATION CHAPTER 7 — THE SEALED SERVANTS AND THE GREAT MULTITUDE
Complete Interpretation | Exegesis, Hermeneutics & Biblical Theology
🔥 GOD KNOWS HIS PEOPLE, AND THE LAMB WILL SHEPHERD THEM!
Revelation Chapter 7 forms an important interlude between the sixth and seventh seals. John sees God's servants being sealed and an innumerable multitude from every nation worshipping before God's throne.
1️⃣ THE FOUR ANGELS AND THE FOUR WINDS
📖 Revelation 7:1–3
Four angels hold back the four winds of the earth until God's servants are sealed on their foreheads.
Exegesis: The imagery communicates restraint of destructive forces until God's appointed purpose is fulfilled.
Lesson: God's judgment is not presented as uncontrolled chaos; the vision emphasizes His authority and timing.
2️⃣ THE 144,000 SEALED SERVANTS
📖 Revelation 7:4–8
John hears the number of those sealed: 144,000, from the tribes of Israel.
Interpretations: Some understand the number literally, as a specific group from Israel; others interpret it symbolically, representing the fullness of God's people. The tribal list is unusual and differs from other biblical lists.
Hermeneutical principle: Do not treat either the literal or symbolic interpretation as undisputed fact. Examine the passage in its literary context, especially its relationship to the great multitude in verses 9–17.
3️⃣ THE GREAT MULTITUDE FROM EVERY NATION
📖 Revelation 7:9–10
John sees a multitude that no one can count, from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and the Lamb.
They wear white robes and hold palm branches, proclaiming salvation to God and the Lamb.
Exegesis: White robes symbolize purity and victory, while palm branches evoke celebration and triumph.
Theological significance: God's redeemed people are international and multicultural. Salvation belongs to God and the Lamb.
4️⃣ THE WORSHIP OF ANGELS AND ELDERS
📖 Revelation 7:11–12
Angels, elders, and living creatures fall before God's throne and worship Him.
They proclaim blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might to God forever.
Lesson: Heavenly worship recognizes God's sovereignty and the worthiness of His saving work.
5️⃣ WHO ARE THOSE IN WHITE ROBES?
📖 Revelation 7:13–14
One of the elders explains that the people in white robes have come out of the great tribulation and have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb.
Exegesis: The paradox of washing robes in blood communicates cleansing and redemption through Christ's sacrificial death.
Interpretations: Christians disagree about whether “the great tribulation” refers to a particular future period, the suffering of God's people more broadly, or both.
Lesson: The redeemed stand before God because of the Lamb's saving work, not their own merit.
6️⃣ GOD'S PROMISE TO HIS REDEEMED PEOPLE
📖 Revelation 7:15–17
The redeemed serve God before His throne. They will hunger and thirst no more, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
The Lamb will shepherd them and lead them to springs of living water.
Old Testament connections: Isaiah 25:8; Isaiah 49:10; Ezekiel 34:23.
Theological conclusion: God promises His people His presence, provision, comfort, and final deliverance from suffering.
