Umar (RA) at the Death of the Prophet ﷺ 💔
There are some moments in a person's life that completely change everything.
For Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was one of those moments.
Umar had spent years beside the Prophet ﷺ.

He had followed him through hardship.
He had fought beside him.
He had travelled with him.
He had watched Islam grow from a small group of believers in Makkah into a strong Ummah in Madinah.

So when the Prophet ﷺ became seriously ill, Umar knew that something was wrong. But perhaps his heart was not ready for what was coming.
Then came the day that nobody wanted to believe.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away.
When the news spread through Madinah, the companions were overwhelmed with grief.

Umar (RA) was devastated.

He stood before the people and could not accept what had happened. He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not died and that whoever claimed that he had died, Umar would deal with him.
This was not the reaction of a man who had rejected the truth.

It was the reaction of a man whose heart had been struck by a grief so severe that he could hardly comprehend it.
Umar could not imagine Madinah without Muhammad ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ had been the heart of their community.

He was their Messenger.
Their teacher.
Their leader.
Their beloved companion.
And suddenly, he was gone.
Then Abu Bakr (RA) arrived.

He entered upon the Prophet ﷺ, went to him, and kissed him after his death. He then came out to the people.
The companions were still in shock.
Umar was still standing there.
Then Abu Bakr (RA) reminded everyone of the reality that every human being must face.

He recited the words of Allah:
“Muhammad is only a messenger. Messengers have passed away before him. So if he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels?”
Qur'an 3:144

The truth became clear.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had indeed returned to his Lord.
Umar later described how, when he heard Abu Bakr recite that verse, his legs could no longer carry him, and he fell to the ground.

The man known for his extraordinary strength was broken by grief.
The man who could face enemies without trembling could not stand when he realized that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was truly gone.

And perhaps that is what makes this moment so powerful.
Umar was strong.
But he was still human.
He loved the Prophet ﷺ deeply.
His departure was not merely the death of a leader to Umar.

It was the loss of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the man who had transformed his entire life.
Just think about Umar's journey.
There was a time when he wanted to stop Islam.

Then Allah guided him.
He became one of the strongest defenders of the Prophet ﷺ.
He stood beside him at Badr.
He stood with him at Uhud.
He travelled with him.
He defended his message.
He witnessed Islam spread throughout Arabia.

And now Umar was standing in Madinah, facing the one reality he never wanted to face.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had returned to Allah.

The city that had been filled with the Prophet's ﷺ presence suddenly felt different.

The companions were grieving.
The Ummah was confused.
And Umar, the strong and fearless Umar, was struggling to hold himself together.
But the story did not end there.

The Prophet ﷺ had left behind a Qur'an, a Sunnah, and a generation of companions who would carry his message forward.
And Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) would soon enter another enormous chapter of his life.
A chapter in which he would stand beside Abu Bakr (RA), help protect the Ummah, and eventually become the second Caliph of Islam. 💔🦁

Umar and the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah 🤍🔥
The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah was one of the moments when Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) struggled deeply with what was happening.
The Muslims had travelled from Madinah with the Prophet ﷺ intending to perform ʿUmrah. They had not come prepared for a major battle. They brought their sacrificial animals and entered the journey with the intention of worship.
But Quraysh refused to allow them into Makkah.

After negotiations, the two sides eventually reached an agreement.
And some of its terms were very difficult for the Muslims to accept.

Among the conditions was that the Muslims would return to Madinah that year without performing ʿUmrah. They would come back the following year, and there would be a period of peace between the two sides.

For Umar (RA), this was extremely difficult.
He looked at the situation and struggled to understand why the Muslims should accept such terms when they believed they were upon the truth.
He went to the Prophet ﷺ and asked questions about the agreement.
His heart was heavy.
He wanted to understand.
He wanted to know why the Muslims were accepting something that appeared, from their immediate perspective, to be so difficult.

The Prophet ﷺ remained firm.
Umar then went to Abu Bakr (RA) and expressed his concern.
Abu Bakr reassured him and reminded him that the Prophet ﷺ was the Messenger of Allah and that Allah would not abandon him.
Those words settled Umar's heart.
But Umar later realized that his reaction had gone too far.
He deeply regretted what he had said and spent time doing good deeds and seeking Allah's forgiveness.
And then something remarkable happened.
What looked difficult at Hudaybiyyah eventually became one of the greatest victories for Islam.
The treaty brought a period of relative peace.
During that peaceful period, people were able to meet the Muslims without the constant fear of war. The message of Islam spread further, and many more people came to Islam.
Allah then revealed the beginning of Surah al-Fath, describing Hudaybiyyah as a clear victory.
Umar (RA) learned something that day that stayed with him.
Sometimes a believer sees only what is happening right now.
But Allah knows what is coming afterward.
Umar saw a difficult treaty.
Allah knew it would open a door to something much greater.
And that is what makes the story of Umar at Hudaybiyyah so powerful.

He was not someone who simply kept quiet when he did not understand.
He asked.
He sought clarification.
And when the truth became clear, he accepted it.

Years later, Umar could look back at Hudaybiyyah and understand that what had seemed difficult at first had actually opened the way for a tremendous victory for Islam.

The day that looked like a setback became a victory.
The treaty that seemed difficult became a turning point.

And Umar (RA) witnessed it all. 🤍🔥
