Every child of God must understand that he or she has been called to function in the earth as both a king and a priest, because our identity in Christ carries both authority and responsibility. As kings, we have been given spiritual authority to exercise dominion, overcome the works of darkness, influence our environment, make righteous decisions, and establish the values of God’s Kingdom wherever we are placed. We are not meant to live as victims of circumstances, fear, sin, or the pressures of the world, because through Christ we have received grace and authority to reign in life. At the same time, as priests, we are called to maintain intimacy with God through prayer, worship, holiness, intercession, and service. The priestly dimension reminds us that our authority is not for self-exaltation but for God's glory and the advancement of His Kingdom. Therefore, the believer must learn to combine the authority of a king with the humility of a priest standing boldly in faith while remaining completely submitted to God. Our kingship gives us the confidence to exercise dominion, while our priesthood keeps our hearts connected to the One who gave us that authority. When these two dimensions operate together, we become effective representatives of Christ, influencing our families, communities, workplaces, churches, and society with both kingly authority and priestly character.
