We are seeking a Programs Officer to support our accelerated learning program in Mchinji.
📌 Position: Programs Officer
📍 Duty Station: Mchinji
Role Purpose
The Programs Officer will support the delivery of an accelerated learning initiative aimed at improving learner performance and primary school completion rates. Reporting to the Programs Coordinator, the role will provide day-to-day leadership, ensure effective implementation of program activities, strengthen school and community partnerships, and document key lessons throughout the program cycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead a cohesive tutor-led remedial learning initiative in coordination with other program components such as job training and summer camps.
* Coordinate learner recruitment in partnership with school leadership.
* Organize and deliver curriculum plans that support accelerated learning and improved completion rates.
* Serve as the primary liaison between Rays of Hope, schools, and community stakeholders.
* Implement all planned activities to enhance learners’ academic progress.
* Support the Program Coordinator in organizing and facilitating in-service teacher trainings.
* Conduct routine supervision visits jointly with Primary Education Advisors (PEAs).
* Recruit, train, and provide continuous support to tutors to strengthen instructional quality.
* Maintain strong working relationships with teachers, head teachers, PEAs, and community leaders.
Supervisory Role
The Programs Officer will directly supervise tutors assigned to the initiative.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Education with at least 2 years of tutoring/remediation experience (numeracy and literacy focus), OR
* Diploma in Education with at least 5 years of relevant tutoring and coordination experience.
* 2–3 years of experience working with an NGO, preferably in a coordination or operations role.
* A solid understanding of the rural education landscape in Malawi.
Essential Attributes
* Strong community mobilization skills, particularly in engaging parents to support their children’s learning.
* Experience in educational capacity strengthening and facilitation.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
* Strong organizational skills, including time management and meeting deadlines under pressure.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
