The First Camp Session for Parents
This year, for the first time, a camp session for parents together with their children was held from 7 to 9 August 2026 at the camp facilities of the parish of St. Boris in Chuncheon, of the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea and Exarchate of Japan.
The parents took part in common worship, in confession, in discussions of a spiritual nature concerning the raising of their children, in private conversations with the clergy, in shared meals and in other common activities. Through these they had the opportunity to come to know one another better, to feel themselves one family, and to live in an atmosphere of Christian brotherhood.
The Metropolitan spoke with particular joy of the fact that many of today’s parents who took part in the program had themselves once been campers at the very same site.
The last camp session of the Metropolis for this summer came to a close, leaving the participants with a deep sense of fulfillment and with the desire that the end of this camp might mark the beginning of preparations for the next parents’ camp.
We thank and glorify God, the giver of every good thing, for the great blessing of seeing all four camp sessions carried out, and we ask Him to grant health, length of days and His every blessing to all who labored for the accomplishment of this sacred work of our Church.

The Third Camp Session of the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea
The third camp session of the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea and Exarchate of Japan, for high school students, began on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the camp facilities of the parish of St. Boris in Chuncheon.
Since most of the campers had already attended in previous years, they settled into the daily program with great ease from the very first moment. They took part eagerly in the prayers, the talks, the discussions, the meals, the games, in everything.
The general theme, “The Vision of Holiness,” on which all the Scripture studies, talks and discussions were based, helped the participants to reflect fruitfully on the great subject of holiness. Brotherhood and friendship among them were further deepened, and all expressed the desire to take part in the winter camp.
The closing ceremony was held on Thursday, August 6th, at the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration in Gapyeong, where, after the festal Divine Liturgy, the campers and staff presented a short but very engaging program in the monastery refectory.

The iconography of the entire Holy Altar and the eastern section of the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Jeonju has been completed with great success.

The Conclusion of the First Camp Session in Chuncheon, Korea
On Friday, July 31, 2026, the first camp session for elementary and middle school students of the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea came to an end.

On Thursday, July 30, the campers had the opportunity to take part in Vespers and the Sacrament of Holy Confession, and the following morning to receive the Most Pure Mysteries during the Divine Liturgy, which was celebrated by Metropolitan Ambrosios of Korea and Exarch of Japan, concelebrated by Fr. Jeremiah Cho and Fr. Johan Park.

In his homily, the Metropolitan spoke of the need for spiritual struggle toward the purification of body and soul, based on the Pauline exhortation from the apostolic reading: “Let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God” (2 Cor. 7:1).

During the closing ceremony, a competition was held on the daily Scripture readings, the names of the teams, and the names of each team’s patron saints, and prizes were awarded, along with gifts for all participants.

The Metropolitan wholeheartedly thanked the camp staff, the volunteer women who worked to prepare the daily meals, and everyone who devoted time and effort to the preparation and running of the camp, and wished that we may all live always with the vision of holiness.

Until we meet again at the next camp session this coming winter!

2026 춘천 초중등부 여름캠프 (II)
2026년 7월30일 목요일, 한국정교회 대교구 초중등부 여름캠프 참가 학생들은 대만과와 고백성사에 참여할 수 있었고, 다음 날 아침에는 한국정교회 대교구 교구장이며 일본 엑사르호스인 암브로시오스 대주교, 예레미아 조경진 신부, 요한 박인곤 신부의 집전으로 진행된 성찬예배에서 성체성사를 받았습니다.

대주교는 강론에서 사도 바울로의 권면 말씀 “육신과 영의 온갖 더러움에서 우리 자신을 깨끗이 하여 하느님을 두려워하는 가운데 거룩함을 온전히 이루어 나갑시다”(고린도후서 7:1)를 바탕으로, 몸과 영혼을 정결하게 하기 위한 영적 투쟁의 필요성에 대해 말씀하셨습니다.

폐회식에서는 매일 진행된 성경 봉독, 각 조의 이름, 그리고 각 조의 수호성인 이름에 관한 퀴즈 대회가 열렸고, 상품과 함께 모든 참가자에게 선물이 전달되었습니다.

대주교님은 캠프 지도자들과 매일 식사 준비를 위해 애써주신 자원봉사자들, 그리고 캠프 준비와 운영을 위해 시간과 수고를 아끼지 않으신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사를 전하며, 우리 모두가 언제나 거룩함에 대한 갈망을 품고 살아가기를 기원하셨습니다. 다가오는 겨울, 다음 캠프에서 다시 만나기를 바랍니다!

The Summer Youth Camp Retreat of “Syndesmos”
A particularly blessed camping period began on Friday, July 31, and concluded on Sunday, August 2, 2026, with more than sixty young people, both baptized and catechumens, in the city of Chuncheon.

The Scripture lessons, sermons, talks, and discussions were based on the central theme: “The Vision of Holiness.” Special weight was given to the dialogue that took place, during which answers were provided to key questions of daily spiritual life.

Participation in the Mysteries of Holy Confession and the Divine Eucharist, in the services of Matins, Vespers, and the Paraklesis to the Theotokos, offered everyone a rich liturgical experiences.

At the closing ceremony, the Metropolitan of Korea and Exarch of Japan thanked the staff, those who worked to prepare the daily meals, and all the participants as well.

Also, on the occasion that the participants came from 15 different countries (Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, the United States of America, Canada, England, Germany, Greece, Romania, Palestine, Algeria, Ukraine, Georgia, and Uzbekistan), the Metropolitan emphasized that “the Orthodox Church is the Body of Christ, and all of us who belong to Her are members of this Body. Christ unites us in His Body, and therefore whoever does not have the sense of oneness, but places ethno-tribal identities and expediencies above the unity of the Church, is not an Orthodox Christian. This is the spirit of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to which we have the great blessing and honor of belonging.”

“신데스모스(Syndesmos)” 청년회 여름 수련회
2026년 7월 31일 금요일부터 8월 2일 주일까지 춘천 성 보리스 성당에서 “신데스모스(Syndesmos)” 청년회 여름 수련회가 주님의 은총 가운데 진행되었습니다. 이번 수련회에는 세례받은 청년들과 아직 세례를 받지 않은 예비신자들을 포함하여 60명이 넘는 젊은이들이 함께했습니다.
수련회는 “거룩함에 대한 열망”이라는 중심 주제 아래 성경 봉독과 강론, 강연, 토론 등 다양한 프로그램으로 진행되었습니다. 특히 참가자들과의 대화와 나눔에 많은 시간을 할애하여, 일상 속 영적 삶에서 마주하게 되는 중요한 질문들을 함께 고민하고 그에 대한 답을 나누는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌습니다.
또한 고백성사와 성찬예배(성체성혈 성사)를 비롯하여 아침 조과와 저녁 만과, 성모님께 드리는 소기원 의식 등에 참여함으로써 모든 참가자는 정교회의 풍성한 전례와 영성을 깊이 체험할 수 있었습니다.
한국과 일본을 관할하는 암브로시오스 대주교께서는 폐회식 때, 수련회를 위해 헌신한 운영 스탭들과 매일 참가자들의 식사를 정성껏 준비한 봉사자들, 그리고 모든 참가자에게 감사의 말씀을 전하셨습니다.
이어 대주교께서는 이번 수련회에 한국, 일본, 중국, 인도네시아, 미국, 캐나다, 영국, 독일, 그리스, 루마니아, 팔레스타인, 알제리, 우크라이나, 조지아, 우즈베키스탄 등 15개국에서 온 청년들이 함께했다는 사실을 언급하시며 다음과 같이 강조하셨습니다.
“정교회는 그리스도의 몸이며, 그 몸에 속한 우리 모두는 그 몸의 지체입니다. 그리스도께서는 당신의 몸 안에서 우리를 하나로 만드십니다. 그러므로 이러한 하나됨의 의식을 지니지 못한 채 교회의 일치보다 민족적·부족적 정체성과 이해관계를 앞세우는 사람은 정교 그리스도인이라 할 수 없습니다. 이것이 바로 우리가 크나큰 은혜와 영광으로 속해 있는 세계 총대주교청의 정신입니다.”

하늘처럼 빛으로 가득한 교회 – 전주 성모안식 성당 성화 소식
전주 성모안식 성당의 두 번째 성화 작업이 아직 완성되지는 않았지만, 성당은 이미 우리 교회의 아름다운 찬미가를 떠올리게 합니다: “교회는 빛나는 불빛의 하늘 모든 신자를 비추나니 그곳에 서서 우리는 찬양하나이다. 오 주여! 이 교회를 굳세게 하소서!”
이러한 경건한 마음으로 신자들은 2026년 7월 26일 주일조과와 성찬예배에 참여하였습니다. 예배는 한국 대교구 교구장이시며 일본의 엑사르호스이신 암브로시오스 대주교께서 본당 사제 일라리온 정종혁 신부와 함께 공동집전하셨습니다.
암브로시오스 대주교께서는 설교에서 오천 명을 먹이신 기적에 대한 내용으로 “하늘의 축복의 비밀”이라는 주제로 말씀하셨고, 다음과 같이 말씀으로 끝맺으셨습니다: “하늘의 축복의 샘은 온 세상을 향해 언제나 열려 있습니다. 그러나 그것이 닫히게 된다면, 이는 하느님의 뜻 때문이 아니라 우리의 불신앙과 배은망덕 때문입니다. 그리스도인의 의무는 믿음과 감사로써 그 문을 여는 것입니다. 믿음과 감사, 이 둘은 우리가 하늘의 축복을 받아들이는 두 ‘손’입니다.”
이어진 사랑의 오찬 자리에서는 모두가 서로 형제자매의 정을 나누는 시간을 가졌으며, 성화를 제작해주신 성화작가 분들과 조력자들에게도 감사의 마음을 전했습니다. 하느님의 도우심과 성모님의 중보로, 성당 전체의 성화 작업이 빨리 완성되기를 함께 기원하였습니다.

The Church, like Heaven, Filled with Many Lights
Although the second phase of the iconography of the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in the city of Jeonju has not yet been completed, the church already recalls the wonderful hymn of our Church: "Heaven, filled with many lights, has been shown forth as the Church, illuminating all the faithful; standing within it, we cry aloud: Make firm this house, O Lord!"
It was with these devout sentiments that the faithful took part on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in the Orthros and the Divine Liturgy, at which Metropolitan of Korea and Exarch of Japan Ambrosios presided over, concelebrating with the parish priest, Fr. Hilarion Jeong.
In his sermon, the Metropolitan, taking as his starting point the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand, developed the theme "The Secret of Heavenly Blessing," and concluded as follows: "The source of heavenly blessing always remains open to the whole world. Yet it can be closed, not by the will of God, but by our own unbelief and ingratitude. It is the duty of Christians to open it through faith and thanksgiving. Faith and thanksgiving: these are the two 'hands' with which we receive heavenly blessing."
At the shared Agape meal, everyone had the opportunity for brotherly fellowship with one another, as well as to express their gratitude to the team of iconographers and their assistants, and to pray that, with the help of God and the intercessions of the Theotokos, the work of iconographing the entire church may be completed in the near future.

한국 정교회 대교구 여름 수련회 첫번째 기간

하느님의 은총으로 2026년 7월 27일 월요일, 춘천 성 보리스 성당에서 초등학생과 중학생을 위한 여름 수련회가 시작되었습니다.

수련회 주제는 “거룩함에 대한 열망“이며, 조 이름은 다음과 같습니다: “사도들”(베드로와 바울로), ”사도대등자들”(콘스탄티노스와 엘레니), “순교자들”(디미트리오스와 카테리나), “어린이 순교자들”(피스티, 엘피다, 아가피), “신앙고백자들”(다마스커스의 요한과 이마에 글이 새겨진 테오파니스), “수도자들”(대 안토니오스와 파이시오스), “자선치료자들”(코즈마스와 다미아노스) — 이는 각 조의 수호성인 명칭을 따른 것입니다. 이를 통해 참가자 모두가 날마다 복음을 삶 속에서 실천하고, 성인들의 삶을 통해 거룩함으로 나아가는 길을 배울 수 있습니다.

개회식에서 한국 대교구장 암브로시오스 대주교께서는 수련회 운영을 지원해 주신 스탭들과, 특히 식사 준비를 맡아 주신 주방팀에게 감사의 말씀을 전하시고, 수련회가 끝날 때까지 모든 이의 마음속에 거룩함을 향한 열망이 타오르기를 기원하셨습니다.
