We’re a friendly, family church in Southampton who is traditional in substance but contemporary in style. We are committed to the verse by verse study of the Bible and we love Jesus and want to make Him known in all that we do.

390,127 people in England and Wales once wrote "Jedi" on the census. We laughed, but most of our neighbours do believe in something: a force, an energy, the universe.

And if we're honest, plenty of Christians think about the Holy Spirit in much the same way.

"Some Christians have called the Holy Spirit the forgotten God. Not because we deny Him. We'd all say the creed. But in practice, many of us live as if God is two persons and an atmosphere."

Who is the Holy Spirit? Not what. Who. Here's the sermon in graphics

A Spirit-Filled Church Is Hungry for the Bible - True spiritual growth is inseparable from a deep hunger for the Bible. The same Spirit who inspired the scriptures draws you closer to them, not away. A growing desire for God's word is the clearest sign of the Holy Spirit at work within you.

True spiritual growth shows up in a simple, profound way: a hunger for the scriptures. The same Holy Spirit who inspired the Bible will always draw your heart back to its pages. It is a beautiful, quiet work happening within you.

Midweek recap: The Church God Builds 🔥

On Sunday we started our new series, Empowered: The Holy Spirit in the Life of the Ordinary Christian.

If someone asked you "Where's your church?", you'd probably give an address. But Jesus never promised to build a venue. He said, "I will build My church", and at Pentecost the Spirit came to do it.

Three things to take into the rest of your week:

1️⃣ Jesus owns the project. It isn't yours to hold up. It's His. (Matthew 16:18)
2️⃣ The Spirit rests on people. In the Old Testament, God's fire rested on a building. At Pentecost it rested on each of them. (Acts 2:1–4)
3️⃣ Devoted, not casual. The Spirit doesn't produce casual attenders. He produces devoted people. (Acts 2:42)

"Not a service we attend. A people God is building."

This week, pick one of the four things the first church devoted itself to: the Word, fellowship, the Lord's table or prayer. Then take one concrete step.

"Where's your church?"

Most of us would answer with an address or a time. But Jesus never promised to build a venue. He said, "I will build My church," and He meant a people.

"We don't build the church for God. God builds His church, by His Spirit, on His Son, and He builds it out of us."

We're starting a new series on the Holy Spirit, and it begins at Pentecost, with the day the Builder arrived. Come and hear the rest every Sunday at 10:30am at Calvary Chapel, meeting at Great Oaks School, Southampton.

Paul reminds us our response to Jesus' righteousness should be worship born from adoration, not obligation. It's about spiritual transformation, not condemnation. Nothing we do can add to Christ's work on the cross. This truth is both a relief and a burden lifted. Join us for worship this Sunday at 10:30 AM at Great Oaks School.
