This year’s Remembrance Service takes place on Sunday 8 November. A procession will be formed at the Digby Hall Car Park, Hound Street in readiness to move off at 10.45am. It will be led by Sherborne Town Band and will march to the Sherborne Abbey where wreaths will be laid at approximately 11 am, following the 2-minute silence.

Sherborne Town Band will play music while the wreaths are being laid, along with the Last Post.

A service will then take place in the Abbey which will last around 45 minutes. After the service, the band will march the parade off again to South Street, via Half Moon Street (including a march past and salute taken by senior dignitaries) where the parade will fall out.

In accordance with the wishes of His Majesty the King, medals and decorations should be worn with civilian clothes.

The public are requested to observe the usual custom of removing head-dress as a mark of respect on the passing of the Colours and Standard. Any wreaths being laid by members of the public need to be in place by 10.30 am.

Weekly Update - Friday October 16th 2026

- Earlier this year we posted that Sherborne NPT Officers had tracked down and arrested a person on suspicion of committing s*xual offences against children. Now the investigation is concluded we can confirm this was Clare Townsend. She was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on Monday 12 October 2026 to three years and nine months in prison and made the subject of a s*xual harm prevention order (SHPO) for ten years. Townsend was also given a five-year restraining order and placed on the s*x offenders register indefinitely.

- Work continues on the Corelli Estate to tackle increasing anti-social behaviour associated with the use of off-road motorbikes, e-bikes and e-scooters. Yesterday evening another bike was seized after it was sighted by an Officer on patrol. Thank you to all those who call in and keep us updated of where and when these incidents occur. Please do get in touch with any information that might assist us.

- A Mobile Police Station deployment was recently held in Sherborne outside the Co-op, Westbridge Park providing local residents with an opportunity to speak directly with the Neighbourhood Policing Team and raise any concerns affecting them or the wider community. The next session will be on the 5th of November, between 11am-1pm.

- Safeguarding work continues following reports of rogue traders targeting elderly and potentially vulnerable residents. We are working collaboratively with Trading Standards, banks and government-approved traders to help protect residents and disrupt those responsible.

- Intelligence-led foot patrols continue across Sherborne town centre and identified hotspot locations, focusing resources on areas where concerns and incidents have been reported.

- On a lighter note the team managed to reunite a frightened dog that bolted after a fright with her relieved owner. Both owner and dog were ecstatic to see each other.

📜 Our talks programme continues tomorrow afternoon with a fascinating glimpse into Georgian life!

We’re delighted to welcome Dr Tim Connor, who will be exploring the lives of young women in the 1720s through a remarkable collection of personal letters, particularly those of Elizabeth Young of Church Farm, Trent, whose family founded the village school.

What can these letters reveal about everyday life, friendships, travel and society in Sherborne and London 300 years ago? Join us to find out, as the Dorset Record Society launches a new publication at this event.

Join us tomorrow at 2pm in the Digby Memorial Church Hall, Sherborne.
