We’ve headed into summer holiday season here at Coastal Roots where many of our households are on holiday, taking much needed rest with their families and friends ☀️

We wrapped up the summer term with church in the park where we gathered for a picnic and learnt about the story where Jesus fed thousands of people with one little boy’s picnic… this small boy’s decision to share his lunch eventually led to one of Jesus’ most known miracles.

We thought about the kindness Jesus had for the crowd, and how kind the little boy was to share what he had. We also spoke of the abundance of our good God towards us…

…this summer may we bring kindness to those we spend time with, would we rest, feast and delight in all the goodness and joy this season brings, would we host others with love and talk about Jesus as we rest, work and play.

May you know the love and presence of Jesus thru the beauty of the sun, sand and sea this summer, may you grow in joy thru the challenges of family life in the summer holidays, would you take time to be still, rest and be known in Jesus presence. Share a meal. Have a picnic. Be open to how Jesus might just show up… 🙏🏻

A few weeks ago it was Roots Kids sports day… they had some wild fun as they learnt about a man called Zacchaeus meeting Jesus in the bible and Jesus calling him by name from the tree he was in 🌳. They also looked at Psalm 139, played with the marble run, parachute & enjoyed obstacle & water games. 💦

Then this weekend at Roots kids 🌱 they brought along some coins 🪙! It was fun figuring out where they were all from on our world map 🗺️. We used these to pray for lots of different 24/7 prayer communities and friends across the globe!

Tree of Life
Glasnost in Macedonia 🇲🇰
polylux_ev in Germany
Maoni preschool in Malawi
Friends and family in Norway, Poland, Canada

It was a good reminder that God’s people are everywhere, and each individual is loved and precious.

We played hide and seek 😂, snacked and did a little recap of the previous stories 🌻🚣‍♀️🌴 and the kids were amazing showing how much they have learnt!

We then read and listened to the story Jesus told about a lost coin.

Through this parable Jesus was teaching us that we are all valued. When we are found and become part of God’s family there is a huge party of celebration in heaven 🥳.

We finished off with a treasure hunt of our own to make our verse this week Luke 19v10

T’was so good to gather together to pray for Perranporth and the South West on Saturday as part of the South West Awake prayer chain

Looking over the beauty of this place we know that there is still so much pain, poverty and brokenness in our community and many are searching for answers in this crazy, broken world.

We also know that prayer changes things… so we gathered and we prayed, declared, sang and spoke life over our area 🙌🏻🙏🏻

So good to be church out on the beach this weekend and celebrate together as two friends were baptised in the sea 💦

One of our values at Coastal Roots is to be ‘Rooted in the Journey’… we are all at different places on our journey, some are unsure, asking questions, finding out more, others are wrestling with doubts, working out what it looks like to follow Jesus in their life, others have been walking with Jesus for many years yet are still learning… all of us are being formed and changed to become more like Jesus and working out how to live like he did…

It was such a joy to baptise friends who have been walking with Jesus for a long time, yet they knew that now is the time to take the plunge and be baptised, just like Jesus did as part of his own journey… 🙌🏻💦

Where are you on the journey of faith? Drop us a line to connect and find out more, ask your questions in a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore, wrestle and ask the questions you’re processing.

Coastal Roots Challenge 2026!! 🚲🏃‍♀️

Last weekend, being church looked like us worshipping with our whole bodies as we all gathered together on the south coast of Cornwall for some prayer and a physical warm up as we set off on a challenge to make it on foot, bike, running and in the odd car(!) to get to the North Coast… 12 miles of the hilly Bissoe Trail!

We had 5 checkpoints along our route where we stopped to re-coup, have a drink/power snack (it was very hot!) and intentionally to reflect on a scripture, pray and get creative as we thought about gratitude, love, sacrifice and our journey of faith…

We finished up on Portreath beach with a well deserved BBQ and dip in the sea as we celebrated the men in our community on Fathers Day!

“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how He did it. Because He never lost sight of where He was headed- that exhilarating finish in and with God - He could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now He’s there, in the place of honour right alongside God. When you find yourself flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility He plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!”

(Hebrews 12 v 1-3, the Message Paraphrase)

“The way things are does not determine the way they ought to be.”
— Michael J. Sandel, Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do?

The world as it is is never the final word. Christians have always known this. We are called not just to see what is, but to work toward what ought to be.

Justice isn’t passive. It’s a posture that looks at what is and refuses to stop there.

Be true. Be kind. Go.

We loved partnering with the amazing Andrew from Beach labyrinth to dig and create this beautiful labyrinth yesterday!

We gathered to pray for our community, to pray protection and joy over the Tunes in the Dunes music festival and welcomed people to have a go at walking the labyrinth prayer space as they passed.

What’s a labyrinth all about I hear you ask… people have been walking labyrinths for centuries, ancient monks would walk them as part of their spiritual journey, slowly making their way to the centre trying to let go of all the things that were distracting them from following God, having identified these things they would pause at the centre and pray, asking God’s help. As the journey back outward takes place they would focus on how they could make that change possible in their lives.

Yesterday as modern day monks (aka Jesus followers) we had a go at this ancient spiritual practice, taking rubbish from the beach with us into the centre, thinking of the things we need to clear out of our lives, leaving it at the foot of the cross in the middle and asking God to help us draw closer to him in pursuit of prayer, mission and justice. We took a stone from the centre back out with us to remind us that we have our feet set on a rock, and we decorated the stones to remind us that we have his light, joy and presence with us as we go out into our everyday!

Next time you see a labyrinth, maybe have a go at this ancient spiritual practice… try praying 🙌🏻

We’ve gathered in homes over the past few weeks, learning together, praying, worshipping and getting creative 🔥

Last week we learnt about love languages and how to love others well, like God loves us, by really knowing one another, not making assumptions, taking time to relate and understand so we can give and receive love well 💞

Yesterday we lit the fire pit in the hot sunshine and celebrated Pentecost together, remembering the amazing gift that Jesus left for his friends and for us all today… his powerful presence, the Holy Spirit, with them everyday and always, helping them to be sent ones into the world…

We prayed, played, sang and got creative in our worship together as we asked God to fill us, be with us, to empower us and work through us, in our everyday and in our community.

Come Lord Jesus! 🔥🙌🏻🙏🏻
