🙏 Today is the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation 🌍

As Catholics, we believe that the world around us is not simply ours to use; it is a gift from God, entrusted to our care.

From the smallest living creature to our forests, rivers, oceans and skies, creation can remind us of the beauty and generosity of our Lord.

Today, we are invited to give thanks for the gift of our common home, to reflect on how we care for it, and to pray for those around the world.

May we learn to see creation not as something separate from our faith, but as something through which we can recognise God’s goodness and love 🌍🙏

Yesterday, we told you about a mother who never stopped praying for her son.

Today, we celebrate that son – St Augustine. 🤍

Augustine’s journey to God wasn’t straightforward. As a young man, he searched for fulfilment in many different places and wrestled deeply with questions of truth, faith and how he wanted to live his life.

But God never stopped calling him.

Augustine eventually converted to Christianity and went on to become a bishop, saint and one of the greatest thinkers in the history of the Church.

His story reminds us that nobody is “too far away” from God – and that becoming Catholic doesn’t require you to have lived a perfect life or to arrive with all the answers.

Perhaps you’re questioning. Perhaps you’re searching. Perhaps you’ve been away from the Church for years.

Wherever you are in your journey, the door is open.

Today we celebrate St Monica – a woman who knew what it meant to pray for someone she loved 🙏

For years, Monica prayed for her son Augustine as he lived a life far removed from the Christian faith she held so dearly.

She worried for him. She wept for him. But she never stopped praying for him.

Eventually, Augustine’s life changed completely. He embraced Christianity and would go on to become one of the great saints and Doctors of the Church.

St Monica’s story is a beautiful reminder that we may not always see what God is doing in the lives of the people we pray for.

If there’s someone you’re praying for today – a child, parent, friend, spouse or someone who has drifted away from their faith – perhaps ask St Monica to pray alongside you.

You don’t need to have it all figured out to walk through the doors of a Catholic church ⛪

You don’t need to know all the prayers.
You don’t need to understand everything we believe.
You don’t even need to be sure what you believe yet.

Sometimes faith begins simply with curiosity – a feeling that there might be something more, or a quiet desire to know God more deeply.

If you’ve ever wondered about the Catholic faith, you’re always welcome at Nottingham Cathedral.

Come in. Take a seat. Light a candle. Spend a few quiet moments with God.

👑 Right at the top of the Lady Chapel windows, Mary is crowned Queen of Heaven.

You can just about make it out from the ground. But thanks to the scaffolding from our Restoring Pugin project, we were able to climb up for a closer look before it came down earlier this month.

Here she is, up close and gently cleaned, for the first time in a very long time ✨

The window was designed by AWN Pugin and made by William Wailes.

Today the Church keeps the Queenship of Our Lady, so it felt like the right day to share her.
