As we gear up towards reopening Rievaulx Terrace, we are opening up volunteering opportunites to help us keep both our sites looking their best for our visitors. So, if you enjoy gardening and getting outdoors then we want to hear from you!

Happy 10th Birthday to our Visitor Centre and Museum! 🥳

Our multi-award winning Visitor Centre has been welcoming folk to the ruins at Rievaulx for over a decade. Almost half-a-million of you have passed our doors! 😍

Architects Simpson & Brown took inspiration from the gothic arches and columns, and focused on using white-washed timber and glass to compliment our natural surroundings. Our Museum was always refurbished with an impressive collection of finds displayed after conversation by our amazing team at Helmsley Archeological Store.

We look forward to welcoming another half-a-million of you over the next decade and make sure to buy a piece of cake in the cafe to help us celebrate! 🍰🎉

Mave's been spotted again! 😍 🐈‍⬛️✨️

Thanks to our recent visitor Hilary for sending across these incredible photos of our resident Cat-sìth Mave. The team named our guardian Mave because she lives in our Nave! 🙄

Lucky visitors who have met Mave will know that she is extremely friendly, loves living at Rievaulx and welcoming folk to the ruins. If you have any photos please share, we love seeing Mave out and about! 📸

Walking the Cleveland Way to Rievaulx? 🌞

In this sunshine we don't blame you! Stroll through some of Ryedale's most stunning scenery from Helmsley to Rievaulx. Make sure to check out Helmsley Castle and stop off at our dog friendly café for cold drinks and ice-creams! 🐕 🍨

Remember the Moorsbus is running this weekend, so you can always catch the bus back to Helmsley. Or just enjoy the walk back and see more of Ryedale! 😍

Have you met our cat-sìth? 🐈‍⬛️✨️

It's not just our Folktale Creature Trail lurking in the abbey... Visitors might have spotted our friendly local resident wandering the ruins recently. We have named them Mave... because they live in the Nave! 😅

Black cats have a long history as symbols of luck in Yorkshire. You'll spot statues of black cats across York to ward off evil and protect shops. In Gaelic folklore, Cait-sìth were said to be fairies in the shape of a black cat with a white spot of their chest. Some tales says they are witches that can turn into cats nine times! 🧙‍♀️ ✨️

Whether a good luck charm, fairy, witch or just a stray cat, we love having Mave at the ruins and hope our visitors have enjoyed some friendly encounters. Share your pics below! 📸
