The beautiful stained glass windows in the Lady Chapel were created by Patrick Reyntiens, a former pupil at Ampleforth and one of Britain's most celebrated stained-glass artists.

The windows depict The Immaculate Conception, The Marriage Feast at Cana, The Coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and Our Lady's Assumption into Heaven, bringing light, colour, and faith together in a remarkable display of art.

Our Savoury Afternoon Tea platter includes roast beef filled Yorkshire pudding with gravy, pork pie and sausage roll with red onion marmalade, homemade quiche, a cheese scone and more!

📢Visitor Announcement📢

Please note that there will be no Abbey Church tour on Thursday 18 June due to a private event taking place in the Abbey Church.

Our Tea Room and Visitor Centre will remain open as usual, and we look forward to welcoming visitors throughout the day.
Our next available guided tour will take place on Sunday 21 June. Tours run every Thursday and Sunday, and we recommend booking in advance to secure your place.

Did you know that our on-site Orchard is home to 1500 trees, and has over 50 varieties of apple? 🍎

On your next visit, why not take some time to explore the Orchard, or enjoy a picnic on one of our picnic tables.

📍To find the Orchard, leave the Abbey site and follow the road down to the entrance of Ampleforth College. The Orchard is located opposite the St Alban's Sports Centre, and visitors are always welcome to enjoy a stroll among the trees.

Saint William of York is the patron saint of York and of victims of injustice. He was elected Archbishop of York in 1141 but became the innocent victim of malicious gossip before he could be installed as archbishop. William retired to Wi******er and lived devoutly as a Benedictine monk until 1153, when his name was cleared and he was restored as archbishop. On his return to Yorkshire, so many people turned out to greet him that the bridge over the River Ouse collapsed and thousands fell into the river, The fact that no-one was hurt was considered to be William's first miracle. He died later that year and was buried in his cathedral. He was canonised in 1227.
