ًTEC Thought for Today 7 March
Mark 6:6 ‘And He marveled because of their unbelief (their lack of faith in Him). And He went about among the surrounding villages and continued teaching.’
In the Bible, we read of Jesus ‘marveling’ only twice. The first time when he was faced with the faith of the foreign centurion and testified that he had not seen such faith in the whole of Israel. The second time is here in our verse for today. Jesus marvels, not at faith, but at unbelief, and specifically the unbelief of his own people. You would think people who had been waiting for a Messiah would have rejoiced and been glad when Jesus made public declaration of who he was. But even in his own home town of Nazareth, people would not believe. What was Jesus response to this? Well, undeterred, Jesus graciously continued to go about teaching the word of God, touching peoples lives, healing the sick and blessing the children.
I wonder what Jesus sees when he looks at our faith today. Are we truly following his words or are we somehow lacking in our trust and belief? If we think we are lacking; how wonderful it is to remember that God‘s grace keeps extending to us. How great it is to know that as people around us seem to continually reject Jesus as Saviour, He is still willing to reach out to them in love, truth, mercy and grace, and to receive them as His very own. Pray for yourself today to have increased faith and pray for those around you to come to faith in Jesus. Never stop believing in all that God can do!
Charles Gabriel’s hymn puts it like this;
“How marvelous, how wonderful and my songs shall ever be:
How marvelous, how wonderful is my Saviour’s love for me!”
