The book of Jonah puts one question to us: what is your growing concern? What actually bothers you?

So think about it. When you're lying in bed at night, wrestling with your thoughts, what keeps you awake? What's the problem you're really trying to fix?

And if we're honest, most of us don't think much past our own fence. Our backyard, our finances, our vacation plans, our future. That's usually where it stops.

But God points to something bigger. He says the thing that bothers Him most is the people who are out of relationship with Him, the ones who feel far away.

Or look at the stories Jesus told: a lost sheep, a lost coin, and two lost sons. They all say the same thing. God's heart is consumed with people who are far from Him.

So the question comes back with your own name in it. Are we just concerned with our own stuff, or are we concerned with the people God can't stop thinking about?

And it goes further. Are we concerned enough to let our lives and our resources actually be surrendered to what God's doing in the world?

Because this isn't a question you answer once. It's like learning to be a great spouse. You answer it with the rest of your life.

So many people have a story of how God moved in their life because of an invite.

If you’ve ever thought of inviting someone to church, now may be the time! It can be as simple as a text or a conversation.

Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.

Most of us don't run from God in some dramatic way. We just quietly start moving in the other direction.

Running isn't always packing your bags. It's choosing a direction other than the one you already know you should go.

And there's infinite examples. Maybe it's refusing to apologize, refusing to forgive, or a money decision you know deep down isn't right.

Or maybe it's one fenced-off area where you pray, "God, I'll follow You, but don't talk about her, or him, or my money."

So you schedule a return instead. After I get married, after spring break, after I close that next big deal, after the promotion, then I'll change. You have scheduled your surrender to God.

But why do we delay? Maybe it's because deep in our hearts we already know we'll eventually have to face it anyway.

So here's the real question: why wait? What's actually holding you back, and is it worth it?

Is that relationship worth it? Is that financial security, if you even want to call it that, worth it? You can keep running, but you can never outrun this.
