BREAKING: Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey Elected New Archbishop of Canada
Today, Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. At the Patriarchal Church of St. George, the members of the Holy Synod unanimously elected His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey as the new Archbishop of Canada. His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew thanked His Eminence Sotirios, the former Archbishop of Canada, for his long and fruitful tenure of 52 years of Episcopal Ministry in Canada and bestowed His Patriarchal blessings and prayerful wishes for good health and length of years in his well-deserved retirement! We thank our out-going Archbishop Sotirios and we look forward to welcoming our new Shepherd Archbishop Apostolos to our Holy Archdiocese of Canada! ΕΙΣ ΠΟΛΛΑ ΕΤΗ ΔΕΣΠΟΤΑ!
