Did You Know? Mess Dinners Have Rules... Lots of Rules!

Part of the fun of a traditional Mess Dinner is that, once dinner begins, a whole set of customs and "Rules of Order" come into effect. You don't simply get up from the table, speak whenever you wish, or offer a toast on your own. These privileges belong to the President of the Mess, who guides the evening and helps preserve the traditions that have been passed down through generations.

And if someone breaks the rules? They may find themselves the subject of a good-natured charge and called upon to explain themselves before the assembly. It's all part of the camaraderie, humour, and fellowship that make a Mess Dinner such a memorable experience.

This year, St. Luke's Anglican Church and the Smithville Legion invite you to experience this unique military tradition for yourself.

As the days grow shorter and the season invites us to slow down, we look forward to gathering together in worship, fellowship, learning, and service throughout November.

🇨🇦 Remembrance Day Mess Dinner 🇨🇦

Join us on Remembrance Day for an evening of fellowship, reflection, and remembrance as the Community of St. Luke's hosts a traditional Mess Dinner at the Smithville Legion #393.

Rooted in military tradition, a Mess Dinner is a formal gathering that brings people together around the table to honour service, remember sacrifice, and celebrate the bonds of community. Whether you have served in uniform, have family connections to military service, or simply wish to remember and give thanks, you are warmly welcome.

This special evening will feature a formal dinner, military traditions, and remarks from our Guest of Honour, Lieutenant Commander (Ret'd) Walt J. Dermott, CD.

Lunch & Service Canada Presentation Reminder

This is a friendly reminder that our seniors lunch gathering will take place today from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

During the event, Service Canada will be providing a presentation on federal services and programs.

Following the presentation, representatives will be available to assist attendees with accessing federal services and programs and to answer any questions you may have.
