If I have a problem with you, normally the first conversation should be with you. Once I start talking about you instead, the original hurt grows. Sides form. Other grievances appear. People who were not even there suddenly have remarkably strong opinions about what happened. And before long, nobody can remember what the original problem was.

Jesus offers another way: go personally honestly and quietly. And go not to win the arqument, but to win the person back.
Jesus says: "If the person listens to you, you have regained your brother or sister."
That is the goal.
Not: I won.
Not: I proved I was right.
Not: I finally put them in their place.

The goal of Christianity is not victory. It is communion.

Of course, sometimes the conversation does not work. Jesus is realistic about that too. But notice His approach: He begins as small as possible.

One person.
One conversation.
One opportunity for grace.

That key is more than something used to open a door. In the biblical world, the key is a sign of authority entrusted by another — authority that carries responsibility, accountability and service.

Jesus says to Peter: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.”

The keys are not a trophy. They are a trust. They are not about privilege. They are about responsibility. They are not about power for oneself. They are about service to others. Peter is entrusted with the keys for the building up of Christ’s Church.

And through our Baptism, every one of us has been entrusted with something of the Kingdom.

We can open doors — or close them.
We can bind wounds — or deepen them.
We can forgive — or hold grudges.
We can encourage — or discourage.
We can bring someone closer to Christ — or, by the way we live, make Christ harder for that person to see.

Remember, God is God. We are not. And perhaps one of the greatest acts of faith is finally becoming comfortable with that. Faith does not mean having God figured out. Faith means trusting God when we cannot figure everything out.

Sometimes we expect God to come dramatically- -to remove the problem, calm the storm, answer the prayer exactly as we hoped. But often God comes much more quietly. And if we are only watching the storm, we can miss his presence. That is exactly what happens to Peter. We admire him for stepping out of the boat. And we should. Peter had enough faith to leave the security of the boat and walk toward Jesus. The problem begins when his attention shifts. He stops looking at Jesus and starts looking at the storm. And suddenly fear replaces trust.
The Gospel is not really about Peter's failure. It is about Christ's faithfulness. Peter cries out. "Lord, save me!' And Matthew gives us one beautiful word: Immediately. Immediately, Jesus reaches out his hand. No lecture first. No test. No hesitation. Jesus saves Peter before correcting Peter. Whatever this week brings, keep your eyes on Jesus. And when you lose sight of Him---and we all do from time to time- remember: He has not lost sight of you. His hand is still reaching out. His voice is still saying, "Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid." The storm does not have the last word. Jesus does.

Notice that Jesus never asked the disciples to create bread. He simply asked them to bring what they had. Five loaves. Two fish. Not enough in their hands. More than enough in his.

Nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God revealed in Christ Jesus. That is the foundation of every miracle. The multiplication of the loaves is not simply about bread. It is about trust. It is about learning that God's love is greater than our limitations. It is about discovering that when we place our little into Christ's hands, He transforms it into more than enough.

Because when Christ is present, there is always enough.

The Kinqdom of Heaven is not simply a place we hope to reach one day. It is God's life already breaking into our world.
Jesus tells us about a man who discovers treasure hidden in a field. Filled with joy--not fear, not obligation--he sells everything to buy that field. The merchant searching for fine pearls does the same when he discovers one pearl of
extraordinarv value. Notice what drives them: joy. When you discover something truly precious, sacrifice no longer feels like a burden. It becomes a privilege.
God's Kingdom is a gift, and every gift calls for a response. Each day we choose whether Christ will truly be the treasure of our lives or simply one interest among many.

If someone watched the way you live, what would they say is your greatest treasure?

If the answer is Christ, then everything else begins to find its proper place.

The real question today is no longer, “Why does God allow weeds?” The better question is: “Can I trust the Farmer?”
Can I trust Him when the smoke fills the sky? When prayers seem unanswered? When suffering lingers?

Jesus says YES!

Because while we are looking at the weeds, God is quietly growing wheat. While we are worried about what is dying, the mustard seed is becoming a tree. While we wonder whether anything is changing, the yeast is silently transforming the whole batch of dough. That is how the Kingdom grows—not always dramatically, but faithfully… patiently… quietly… one life, one act of kindness, one prayer, one conversion at a time.

That is exactly what our wounded world needs today.

The heart of today’s Gospel is something important.
The seed is never the problem.
It is good from the very beginning.
The problem is not the seed—it is the condition of the soil.

Growth requires the right conditions. It requires patience, encouragement, a sense of belonging, and love. None of us grows alone. Every one of us has needed someone who softened the hard ground of our lives.
A parent.
A teacher.
A friend.
A spouse.
A priest.
Someone who believed in us when we struggled to believe in ourselves.

God has used us to do the same for someone else. At different times, we’ve all been every kind of soil. Sometimes hard through hurt, shallow when faith is tested, crowded with the weeds of worry, busyness, and distraction.

Here is the Good News.
Soil can change. The Divine Gardener knows exactly how to soften hardened hearts, remove the stones, pull the weeds, and enrich the soil of our hearts.

Faith is not about carrying more rules, it is about discovering that we never carry life alone. Sadly, religion can sometimes become a list of "must do," "have to," and "ought to." That was often the mistake of the Pharisees. They knew the law, but they sometimes forgot the heart of God. Jesus does not replace the law with something easier. He fills it with mercy. He replaces fear with friendship. Guilt with grace. Harshness with gentleness.

That is the heart of today's Gospel, my dear friends. I know that many of you carry burdens, and honestly, I carry a few myself.
That is why these words of Jesus speak to my own heart every time I read them.

Don't come to Jesus empty-handed: Bring your worries.
Bring your grief.
Bring your disappointments.
Bring your fears.

For the One who says, "Come to me." also promises, "| will give you rest." - Fr. Christopher
