HISTORICAL SYNOPSIS
The Maronite Catholics, first settled in Canada in 1860. They were mainly Lebanese and Egyptian of Lebanese descent. Maronite immigration to Canada took place in four main waves, all of which were mainly caused by the infamous instability in the Middle East. The first was between 1860-1914
The second wave immigrated in 1930
The third in the 1960s - 1975
And the fourth in 1989
The first three Maronite Canadian parishes that preceded the establishment of the Eparchy were founded before 1982 by H.E. Elias Chahine (1914-1982), and they are: Saint Charbel in Fredericton, Saint Antoine le Grand in Leamington, and Notre Dame du Liban in Quebec. Maron Canada was canonically established on August 27, 1982, by H.H. Saint and Pope Jean Paul II. Before the institution of the Eparchy, Maronite parishes were assigned to Latin Eparchies around them.
