Does Your Faith Ever Make You Uncomfortable?

We read about the resilient path, and a quote by Ben Sexsmith stopped us in our tracks.

He said if someone has faith worth following, their belief should make us feel uncomfortable for not living it too.

But if they share 90% of our lifestyle and values, then there's nothing especially inspiring about them.

Instead of making us want to be more like them, it looks like they want to become more like us.

And that should break our hearts, because truly speaking, that feels like the reality most of the time.

So here's the hard truth: a faith that never challenges us is not transforming us.

If Jesus is only 10% different from us, we haven't found the biblical Jesus.

Maybe we've remade Him in our own image, rather than being made in His image and formed to His likeness.

The Two Rails Every Growing Thing Needs

A pastor described ministry using the picture of train tracks - and it stuck.

He said there are always two rails. One rail represents the wins: the victories, the growth, the things worth celebrating.

The other rail represents the challenges - not necessarily failures, but the things that come up along the way.

Wouldn't it be nice to have no conflict, no issues, no obstacles? In ministry, in life - doesn't that sound fun?

But it's not realistic. It's not real life.

And it's not how the early church worked either. Most of the New Testament is letters written to communities that were both growing and dealing with serious problems - at the same time.

A train with only one rail falls off the track. You need both to move forward.

So don't be surprised when the wins and the challenges show up together. That's not a sign something's wrong - that's what forward movement looks like.
