David was called “a man after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22). Yet David also committed adultery with Bathsheba and arranged the death of her husband, Uriah (2 Samuel 11).

His story reminds us that even the greatest heroes of the Bible are sinners in need of grace. God’s law did not save David—it exposed his sin and showed his need for forgiveness. The law reveals our guilt, but it cannot make us righteous.

That’s why our hope is not in being good enough. We are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who lived the perfect life we could not live, died for our sins, and rose again. The gospel is not about earning God’s favor—it’s about receiving the mercy He freely gives to sinners who trust in Christ.
