June 21, 2026 - You are Worth More - Rev. Fiona Swanson

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 21, and we recognize the Fathers in our lives. Jesus is talking to his disciples about going out into the world and spreading the Good News - and Jesus warns them about not being received well, but they are reassured about God the Father’s care for them, as should we!

To prepare for this week, read: Psalm 86:1-10, 16-17 and Matthew 10:24-39

Summer Rest: Let Yourself Slow Down - Rev. Geoffrey

Summer has a way of feeling busy in a different way—even when things are supposed to be lighter. But we weren’t made to keep going at full speed all the time. Sometimes, what we need most is to simply pause and remember God’s invitation: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Not striving. Not pushing harder. Just being still.

Rest isn’t falling behind—it’s making space to breathe, to notice what matters, and to reconnect with God in the middle of everyday life. Even small, quiet moments can restore more than we realize.

So if you need it, take the permission: slow down this summer. You don’t have to earn rest—it's already a gift. “Come to me… and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Church School Update
As the school year winds down, our church school year is wrapping up as well. The children enjoyed a wonderful end-of-year celebration on May 31. Although the wrap-up party has taken place, our dedicated Faith Formation leaders will CONTINUE TEACHING THROUGH SUNDAY, JUNE 21.

There will be no church school during the summer months. We will resume our regular schedule in September. During the summer, children are warmly welcomed to stay with us in the sanctuary during worship. If they need a break or a quieter space, the nursery is always available. Activity sheets can also be found at the back of the sanctuary for children to enjoy during the service.

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS TO PARKING LOT - Tom McIntyre
As feared and explicitly expressed during preliminary discussions with adjacent developers, heavy traffic through the parking lot and truck staging on church property has become an issue. There are concerns of safety and damage to pavement. Meetings with construction site personnel have been positive and they have issued instructions to their contractors. However, the problem persists.
Contractors who are heeding the caution presently have to back up in the lane from the west entrance on Heritage to the construction site, since it is impossible to turn a large truck in the narrow space. This poses a further risk to local residents and others who frequently use the lane.
St Andrew's has elected to close the south exit to the lane and install barricades to resolve concerns. However, in the spirit of good neighbourly cooperation and further safety concern for adjacent residents, the barricade will form a 'U' shape that will allow trucks to travel forward down the lane and nose into the church barricade to allow safe completion of a U turn to the construction site. In turn, the contractor has committed to install the barricades, undertake any required damage repairs and provide any local grade improvements on church property upon completion of work.
These restrictive measures will remain in place until fall when most of the heavy construction should be complete. This problem could resurface when eventual activity commences on the adjacent 'tennis court' site.
The barricades will impact recycling operations at the garbage enclosure but these are controlled by St. Andrew's and will require temporary removal of the barricade and repositioning. Upon notice from the office, the Parking Team will arrange for necessary access. Thank you for your understanding.

‘Why do we have Pride Month in June and Pride Week in August/September? This question has been asked of our Rainbow Team.

For Calgarians this year, Pride Week is taking place August 31 to September 6, 2026. For over 35 years Calgary Pride has brought communities together to celebrate visibility, creativity, and belonging.

One of St. Andrew’s stated values is “Accepting: honouring different ways of thinking, perspectives, languages, cultures, races and genders, enabling the Spirit’s creative spark to bring forth new possibilities.” A second stated value is “Welcoming: Inviting you to experience God’s presence and love in community, whoever you are and whatever your circumstances. We affirm that gender and sexuality are gifts of God, and welcome people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

The June celebration of Pride is now known as Pride Season. The occasion used to be referred to as Pride Month as determined by the federal government.

Pride Season is the term referring to the wide range of Pride events that take place over the summer (June to September) across Canada when 2SLGBTQI+ communities and allies come together to spotlight the resilience, celebrate the talent, and recognize the contributions of 2SLGBTQI+ communities. Although special attention is paid to the Pride events during the summer months, they happen throughout the year in many communities.

Historically, Pride gatherings emerged from the first large-scale protests for 2SLGBTQI+ rights. In Canada, the first demonstrations took place in Ottawa and Vancouver in 1971. By 1973, Pride events were held in several Canadian cities, including Montréal, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg. Toronto's Pride weekend in June is now among the largest Pride events in North America.

Beyond the Festival Market site downtown there will be a network of venues across the city hosting Pride events. This will include performances, discussion panels and art markets, each event contributing to the larger celebration of q***r arts and community life.

Of special interest is the Citywide Pride Interfaith Service; which is an annual inclusive worship service celebrating the intersection of faith and 2SLGBTQIA+ identity. The service is organized by Affirming Connections and Calgary’s Network of Affirming Faith Communities. This interfaith event is inspiring in learning from other faith communities how they embrace each other.

The Pride parade is set for September 6, 2026.
