Today is All Saints Day! What is a saint? A beloved child of God - and that is all of us! Not because of what we have done, but by God’s grace. Today we think of all those who have gone before, those who surround us, and those who come after us. Together we glorify God.

To prepare for this week, read: Matthew 5:1-12 and Revelation 7:9-17

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Ian Denness.

Ian is mourned by his wife Freda, her daughter Laura and husband Josh, her daughter-in-law Kayla and grandsons Callum and Robbie.

Ian passed away Thursday, October 1, 2026 at the age of 80 years.

A Funeral Service was held at McInnis & Holloway on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 2:30 p.m.

From your Clerk of Session - October Updates

💥 Elder elections are coming up. Watch for more information in LinX and during Sunday announcements about the election process and how you can participate.

💥 Our youth are off to a great start. Eighteen youth attended the first youth group gathering of the year, including four youth from the Nuer congregation. It’s wonderful to see these connections growing.

💥 Come see the refreshed Lower Fireside Room. We invite you to stop by and take a look at this newly updated and welcoming space.

💥 October is Minister Appreciation Month. This is a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation and support for our Minister and Ministers in Association and the many ways they serve our church community.

💥 An exciting step for our church community. Session has agreed to invite leadership of the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan including, Rt. Rev. James Makuey Chuol, General Moderator, and Rev. James Duoth Biet, Office Secretary to the General Moderator, to St. Andrew’s for the ordination of Martha Nyapuar Thok in the spring of 2027. We look forward to sharing more information with the congregation as plans develop.

Elder Election - please give prayerful consideration to our upcoming elder election
Every 2 years our congregation prayerfully considers our leadership. This fall St. Andrew’s will be electing 6 new leaders to join our Session.

Ruling elders are elected by the congregation and ordained for life by the laying on of hands.

Active service on session (term eldership) is for 6 years.

We currently have 18 elders, and every 2 years, 6 elders come off session and 6 new elders are elected by the congregation.

Any member of the congregation can be elected as an elder. A member is someone who:
- has professed their faith at St. Andrews’, or has transferred their membership from another congregation.
- is of good character and has the gifts of discernment and leadership.

In the next couple of weeks, we will learn more about elders, and nomination forms will be made available. 2 people from the congregation must sign the form when nominating someone. The session then reviews the nominations.

Voting of elders will take place Nov. 29 and Dec. 7th.

Serving God, serving each other, Serving Communion
St. Andrew’s Session has been considering ways we can invite people to share in ministry, in Growing. Life. Together. With God. How can we be more inclusive in worship participation for our people?

One thing we have been discussing is including more people in serving Communion. We would like to include youth, elders, people who used to be on Session, as well as people who have never been on Session!

If you would like to be included in this way, there is a sign-up sheet in the Foyer. Anyone who signs up and is new to serving will be contacted to meet with Rev. Laurie and a few elders for a short time to talk about what Communion means, and what your role will be on Communion Sunday.

People who are new to serving will be paired with an elder who has served before, so everyone will have a partner! We hope you see this as an exciting way to share in ministry together. Serving Communion is indeed one of our highest privileges.

We are so glad our space is being used so often.
We’re a busy church, which is a good thing!!
The office would REALLY appreciate it if you could include the following information when requesting space, either by email or phone:

1. Your name
2. The name of the room you would like to book (Upper Room, Trinity Hall, KE Lounge…)
3. The name of the group or team you represent (Ladies Guild, Men’s Group, Youth Group, Facilities Team, Indigenous Relations Team, Faith Formation Team…)
4. Brief description of what you need the space for

Having this information will help the office staff help you!!
