Here's an encouraging prayer just for today.

09/21/2026

Today, Belleville is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Our community is in shock after last night's terrible shooting at the Sons of Jacob synagogue on the holiest night of the Jewish calendar year, Yom Kippur; a day when we are all encouraged to seek reconciliation with God and forgive others for wrongs committed in the past year. We are are deeply saddened and ask you to please pray for the members of the Sons of Jacob synagogue and their neighbours in the area. Pray also for the police officer, Constable Jeff Smith, who was seriously injured and is recovering in hospital, and for those tasked with investigating this violent act. The lyrics of a song say, "Hate is strong, and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men ... (but) God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; the wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will to men." Let us pray, then, for peace in our city.
