Celebrating the life of First Lady Margaret Richards

This past Saturday- 30 May 2026, Our Botswana family gathered to celebrate the life of our Mother and Mentor FL Margaret Richards who has transitioned to glory.

Born in Jamaica on 24 March 1954, Mrs Richards was a citizen of the United Kingdom and was married to Bishop Basil Richards of the Church of God of Prophecy, an international organisation ministering in 135 countries, including Botswana. Mrs Richards was a trained Staff Nurse with qualifications in Midwifery and Counselling, and dedicated much of her life to Christian ministry and community care.

When Bishop Richards was assigned to Botswana between 1994 and 2002, Mrs Richards served faithfully as a volunteer nurse in Lobatse at Peleng Clinic and Kgodiso Day Care Centre. Upon relocating to Gaborone, she continued her voluntary service at the UB Clinic from 1999 until 2002, when their mission in Botswana was completed.

Mrs Richards is survived by her husband, Bishop Basil Richards. Since leaving Botswana, Bishop and Mrs Richards served as local pastors in several churches in the Midlands, United Kingdom, and frequently revisited what they fondly regarded as their second home, Botswana.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

With deep sorrow, yet heartfelt gratitude, we honour the life and legacy of a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering faith, First Lady Margaret Richards

Mrs Richards, Our Mother, is the wife of our Former National Bishop Bill Richards and they have faithfully served in Botswana from 1992 to 2002.

Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Forever loved. Forever remembered.

Our prayers are with Bishop Bill Richards,family and the entire COGOP family.
