Face of God
Lord, I confess that sometimes fear makes me want to take control of my own life. Like David, I can become afraid of what is ahead and look for safety in my own plans instead of trusting You. Forgive me when I allow fear to guide my decisions.
When I am afraid, help me remember that I do not have to face everything by myself. Teach me to strengthen myself in You, just as David did when everything seemed to fall apart.
Father, when I experience problems, losses, disappointment, or uncertainty, help me seek Your direction before I act. Give me the patience to wait for You and the courage to obey You, even when Your way is difficult.
Keep me from becoming like Saul, who allowed fear and disobedience to take him farther away from You. When You seem silent, teach me not to look for shortcuts or answers outside Your will. Instead, help me humble myself, examine my heart, repent when necessary, and continue trusting You.
Lord, remind me that my circumstances are not my ultimate refuge. My plans are not my ultimate refuge. Other people are not my ultimate refuge.
You are my refuge.
When I am weak, be my strength.
When I am confused, be my wisdom.
When I am afraid, be my peace.
When I am lost, guide me back to You.
When I fail, teach me to return to You.
Help me trust You not only when everything is going well, but especially when everything seems to be falling apart.
May I learn from David to strengthen myself in You and to seek Your guidance. May I learn from Saul the seriousness of disobedience and the danger of turning away from You.
Father, give me a heart that chooses You even when I am afraid.
Let my first response in trouble not be panic, but prayer.
Let my refuge not be the things of this world, but You alone.
In the precious and powerful name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray.
