About Our Church
As a Christian church, we are a faith community grounded in the teachings of the Bible. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is our guide for living a fulfilling lifestyle. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a global network of over 14 million members located in 200 countries across the world. We also operate schools, hospitals and development and relief agencies as we believe in not only caring for the spirtual needs but also the social and physical needs of the community.

The final service in the series "Growing Young - Being Best Neighbours" will be taken by our pastor - Lea-Anne Smith on Sabbath October 31 at 11.00 am.
Our church culture should recognise and participate in serving our community in practical ways.
It seems that those churches who are good neighbours to their local community are more likely to ‘grow young’ than those who aren’t. There are five ways we can contemplate how our church is accomplishing this mission.
1. Recognise that young people are action-orientated and want to be part of something that helps the local community and beyond.

2. Provide time and people to walk alongside young people as they explore answers to the deeper questions of life and society.

3. Ask questions of the young people already connected to your church and of the local community to understand their culture and passions.

4. Teach and show a gospel-ethic providing a balanced diet of Biblical teaching and good works.

5. Spend a period of time actually serving your neighbours well, meeting some needs they have.
Ask yourself the question, "How am I being a good neighbour in my community and in what ways can I serve them as the hands and feet of Jesus?

“Research continues to affirm that the best predictor of a young person’s faith is the faith of their parents. That means the role of ministry leaders who care about kids also must include the care, equipping, and formation of parents and families…
According to pastoral leaders, when parents are intentional about faith building outside of church, overall faith maturity and vibrancy within the congregation rises even more.” [Growing Young]

JOIN US FOR WORSHIP ON OCTOBER 17:
Our series on Growing Young will address the topic of Empathy Today. Pr Lea-Anne Smith will be leading in our worship time and we have a number of children from the Toronto Adventist School enhancing our worship time. You will not want to miss this!

"You may have heard the saying, “Before you criticize or judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes.” This quote is all about empathy. Empathy is the ability to be aware of the feelings of others and imagine what it might be like to be in their position (or in their shoes).

Empathy is a key ingredient in positive friendships and relationships. It reduces conflict and misunderstandings and leads to helping behavior, kindness, and even greater success in life in general." [https://go.biglifejournal.com/blj6-2/?_gl=1*19h4h29*_gcl_au*MTYzMzgwNjI1OC4xNzkxNjc1Nzk4]

Here are some questions we can ask:
What are ways your community could ask more questions and create space for conversation with young people?
Who can you talk to about the things in the culture of young people you don’t understand or find offensive?
Can you pray for God to give you eyes to see people to talk with, and open doors toward good conversation?

JOIN US FOR WORSHIP ON OCTOBER 10 - Our Growing Young Series continues as we explore the impact of Jesus' message on youth today. The worship service message will be presented by Pastor Kevin Amos.

"As young people seek a faith that is authentic and in line with the reality of who Jesus is churches are beginning to realise that teaching the costly and sacrificial side of faith might actually be important. Growing Young puts it this way:

“Following Jesus is costly, requires sacrifice, and invites us to actively participate in God’s kingdom. In fact, the church by its very nature is participatory, which means everyone shares the work. It’s a body (Rom. 12:5–8; 1 Cor. 12:1–31; Eph. 4:1–16), and every part needs to play its role in order to build up the whole. As indicated by Jesus’ command to both “follow me” and “take up your cross daily” (Luke 9:23), pursuing Jesus requires no less than everything, every day (Rom. 12:1). There’s nothing therapeutic about that call…In short, teenagers and emerging adults in churches growing young aren’t running from a gospel that requires hard things of them. They are running toward it.”"

October 3 - Growing Young - Developing Warm Relationships.

This is the second in our Growing Young Strategies series and will be presented by Chris Drury in our worship hour at 11.00 am on October 3. We will look at how to develop warm relationships in our church and community, particularly with our children and youth. One key component is learning to listen and accepting people unconditionally without criticism or judgement.

Come along and learn with us as we understand the relationship that Jesus establishes with us and that we, in turn, can develop with others.

Here is a video with some good pointers in building relationships with our children and youth.

Learn how simple actions like creating positive family routines and...
