There’s a quote attributed to Michelangelo that floats around. It may be more legend than history, but either way, it contains truth. 🤷♂️
The story goes that Michelangelo was asked how he sculpted David — how he created something so beautiful, so realistic.
His response?
“I saw David in the marble and carved away everything that was not David.”
David became David because, day after day, he was shaped by the hands of a master craftsman.
Romans 12 gives this promise:
“Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
You want to know God’s will for your life?
Place yourself in God’s hands, day after day.
And because our hearts are a much harder material than marble, it may take a lifetime.
But the process is valuable in itself. Because as you and I are worked on, we discover that we are being held by the loving hands of God. 🤲
Hands that are not out to crush us.
Hands that were crushed for us.
Hands stretched out on a cross.
And hands that will one day embrace us and welcome us home.
