'Growth in the Midst of Change'
The 21st Annual Meeting of the Presbytery of WA took place on Saturday 20 June 2026 with the theme 'Growth in the Midst of Change'.

The meeting began with a joyous opening worship led by Presbytery Chairperson Rev Ken Devereux, alongside Rev Samuel Annan and the worship team from host church Rockingham Uniting Church. The worship included a Service of Induction for Rev Ana Lea'aetoa into her roles as Presbytery Minister (Pastoral) led by Rev Ken Devereux.
The Candidates for Ministries Committee Chairperson Rev Bev Fabb presented five people for recognition of Lay Preacher, who each spoke to the gathered members about their calling and commitment to the ministry. Following deliberation and voting, we welcome Gordon Smith, Sue Strutt, Fiona Bentley, Evelyn Ashley and Mark Hackling as recognised Lay Preachers in the Presbytery of WA!
As well as reports from committees and networks, there were presentations from Uniting WA Co-CEO's Jen Park and Michael Chester; an Assembly Update on Act2 by Rev Dr Sunny Chen; a presentation about Naval Defence Force Chaplaincy with Rev Lyall Reid and Rev Toby Keva; an update on the Fijian National Conference by Laitia Vuniwaqa (which will be taking place in October 2026 in Fremantle); information about NCLS from the Thrive Committee; information about updated Property Use and Maintenance Guidelines from Heather Hamblin and Lora Brown; and a presentation by WA Synod General Secretary David Beards about support available for congregations.

Office bearers were elected and commissioned at the conclusion of the meeting, with past office bearers acknowledged and thanked..
Thanks to all of the Presbytery of WA staff, office bearers and volunteers who helped make the day run so well, to those who have finished their time on committees, and to those continuing or taking up roles on committees.
Thanks also to the congregation of Rockingham Uniting Church for their generous hospitality!

Happy 49th Anniversary to the Uniting Church!
Uniting Church WA Moderator Rev David Jackson offered this prayer for the Uniting Church in Australia as part of the Assembly’s season of Uniting in Prayer where Uniting Church community from across the country were invited to join together in 30 days of prayer from Pentecost Sunday on 24 May to the 49th Anniversary of the Uniting Church in Australia on 22 June.

Today’s Uniting in Prayer is from Rev Craig Bosman, Rural Resources Minister with the Presbytery of WA and Minister of Margaret River Uniting Church.

𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿
𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟴: 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁

As you begin today’s prayer, take a moment to be still, to be silent, and to simply breathe. As you breathe in, interiorly say the words: “𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘩”. As you breathe out, interiorly say the words: “𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵”.

Do this for about three to five breaths. Feel yourself entering a space of peaceful gratitude born of a deep sense of belonging and connectedness to the body in Christ.

Now, hold these intentions from Jesus’ prayer in John 17: “… 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦… 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦… 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯𝘦.” (NRSVUE).

Use the following prayer prompt, adapting it as you feel led:

Now, sit in simplicity, stillness and silence, coming back to your breathing. Finish with these three breath-prayers: breathing in, interiorly say, “𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵”, and breathing out, interiorly say, “𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵”.

Go into your day looking for opportunities to share wisdom, presence, and love with those who come across your path.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆.

Across the world, there are currently 41.6 million refugees living under the mandates of UNHCR and UNRWA, alongside 9 million asylum seekers, more than 68 million people displaced by conflict within their own countries, and 4.5 million individuals who have been denied a nationality and the basic rights that come with it.

We cry out to God and pray for their safety, dignity and hope.

May our hearts, churches and communities be places of hospitality, compassion and justice, reflecting God's love for all people.

Are you mentoring someone in ministry? This one’s for you. 🪴

The Uniting Centre for Education and Formation (UCEF) is offering a free Mentoring Workshop on Wednesday 1 July from 9.30am to 12.30pm at St Peter & Emmaus Church Mt Hawthorn in Joondanna.
Whether you’re walking alongside someone discerning a call, supporting a candidate through formation, or helping a newly ordained minister or lay preacher find their feet — mentoring is a significant responsibility. And most of us learned on the job.
Come and spend a morning with other mentors. We’ll work through real scenarios, share what we’ve learned, and pick up some practical tools for the road ahead.

All mentors welcome — new and experienced.

Across our Presbytery, in diverse settings, congregations and faith communities gather each week – large and small, busy and steady, full of energy and sometimes weary. There is faithful worship, deep care for one another, a commitment to outreach and service, and a strong sense of belonging.
Amid this, honest questions are emerging – some unspoken, others shared in conversation. Questions about leadership capacity and sustainability, connecting with a changing world, and the future of our church.
Rev Claire Pickering, Presbytery Minister: Strategic Priorities, shares insight into the work of the Strategic Priorities Working Group focused on strengthening congregations. At its heart, the work of Strengthening Congregations holds a significant question:
"what does it look like to be a faithful and life-giving Christian community in this time and place, and into the future?"
