Jesus is our loving Saviour, always wanting us to come to Him and always desiring everyone to be saved. Even when we reject Him, He is still thinking about bringing us back.
Today, we explored Mark 2:13–3:6, where we see Jesus repeatedly challenged by the Pharisees who were the most religious people of His day.
The uncomfortable truth is this: the Pharisees were not atheists. They were not irreligious. They were the most devoted, disciplined, and morally serious people of their day. They prayed. They fasted. They studied Scripture. They attended synagogue faithfully. And yet, somehow, while being so close to the things of God, they slowly lost sight of the heart of God. Even while they were plotting to kill Jesus, He still wanted to save them. That is the heart of Christ toward you today: not anger, not rejection, not condemnation, but open arms.
The Gospel of Mark shows us that being religious and being a follower of Jesus can be dangerously different.
Religion says, “Try harder.”
Jesus says, “Come closer.”
Religion says, “You are accepted because of what you do.”
Jesus says, “You are accepted because of what I did.”
Let’s come home to Jesus again and rest in the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
