Our Father who art in heaven....what does it mean to pray "thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven"? Join us this Sunday as Rev. Liena Hoffman delves into this question. All are welcome to worship, to reflect, pray, light a candle and ...share in community.
Whether youโ€™ve been praying these words your entire life or are exploring faith for the first time, come discover how the Lord's prayer still speaks to our world today.

๐ŸŒ Celebrating UnitingWorld Sunday at Penguin Uniting Church!
Date: Sunday, 28th June
Theme: Life, Abundantly
At Penguin Uniting Church, we have a long, proud history of supporting UnitingWorld who partner with churches across the Pacific, Asia, and Africa and are doing extraordinary workโ€”lifting families out of poverty, adapting to climate change, opening up education, and standing up for justice.
These are people of deep faith and remarkable courage, pursuing the abundant life Jesus promised for everyone. ๐Ÿ™Œโœจ
๐Ÿค Our Journey Together
Over the years, our congregation has put faith into action through incredible fundraising, prayer, and inclusiveness. Together, we have supported:
Lent Event: Dedicated fundraising, prayer, and global awareness.
Everything in Common: Gift cards that directly fight poverty and build hope.
UnitingWorld Sunday - when we celebrate the work undertaken and explore how God is at work through UnitingWorld to create extraordinary change in the Pacific.
Welcoming PALM Workers: Building community and reaching out to the Pacific Island agricultural workers who contribute so much to our local Penguin community.
This Sunday, we are bringing it all together. Join us during our morning service as we celebrate our global neighbours, reflect on our shared mission, and give thanks for the beautiful, diverse church family to which we all belong.
Everyone is welcome! Come celebrate the "abundant life" with us.

๐ŸŽ‰ 49 Years of the Uniting Church in Australia! ๐ŸŽ‰
Yesterday, the PUC community came together to celebrate a major milestone, and we were honored to have Isabel Hazeldine cut our anniversary cake!
Isabel and Bob Hazeldine moved to Tasmania in 1976 and played a pivotal role in bringing the Presbyterian, Methodist, and Congregational churches together ahead of the official inauguration on June 22, 1977.
From that historic regional service at the Burnie Civic Centre to the launch of the Australian Hymn Book, the Uniting Church was born as a truly unique, homegrown church in the Australian context. Bob later served as the Moderator of the Synod of Tasmania.
Thank you, Isabel, for celebrating with us and reminding us of our wonderful roots! ๐ŸŽ‚

In the name of the Triune God,
Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.

God of the first breath,
God of deep waters, open shores, and the table with room for all,
we come in this season of Pentecost
asking again for the renewal of your Spirit.

We give thanks for the Uniting Church in Australia,
for its journey of courage, covenant, repentance, and hope;
for its calling to seek unity without demanding uniformity;
and for its witness to reconciliation, justice, and love.

On the land now called Australia,
we honour the First Peoples,
the oldest continuing peoples of our Blue Pacific Continent,
custodians of land, waters, story, song, memory, and sacred belonging.
May the Church listen with humility, walk with truth,
and make justice visible in relationship.

We give thanks for the deep bonds
between the Uniting Church,
the Pacific Conference of Churches,
and the wider household of God:
a communion deeper than distance,
held by grace, baptism, bread, Spirit, and shared calling.

Lord Jesus Christ,
you prayed that your disciples may be one:
not the same,
not without wounds,
not without hard conversations,
but one so the world may believe,
one so love may be seen,
one so your household may have many rooms,
space for all, dignity for all, love for all.

Holy Spirit, come again.
Come as wind where we have become still,
as fire where our witness has grown cold,
as breath where we are weary,
as courage where fear has taught us silence.

Send us as one Church
to stand with those pushed to the edge,
to protect children, honour elders, uphold women,
listen to young people,
and care for creation where the ocean rises and the land groans.

God of the mat, the basket, and the sail,
weave us again:
a mat for community,
a basket for abundance, hospitality, and service,
a sail wide enough to catch the Spirit
who blows where it will.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Reweave us in love.
Send us as one Church.
Amen.

Solstice prayer โ„๏ธ
Friends let us pause and ponder the wonder of a 23.5ยฐ tilt!
How awesome, how indescribably magnificent that the world orbits around the sun in 365.24 days at a tilt of 23.5ยฐ! We call this marvel a year!
And the tilt of 23.5 degrees gives us the gift of a winter solstice!
Today, our shortest day is a time to pause and be amazed at the wonder of creation and the path of our star-planet, the Earth.
It is a time to be encouraged. The longer nights and darkness may overwhelm us as the increasingly global and local violence and hatred darkens our hearts.
But, tonight is the night when the earth will faithfully continue its journey and the days will grow longer. So too the light of hope and love will increasingly shine over the darkness of the world. The darkness cannot overcome the day because the earth, our planet tilts at a 23.5%.
As we pause we remember God chose to use us, you and me to be rays of hope and love. In the words of the late Richard Scolyer โ€œwhat we do mattersโ€! Yes, what we do does matter and it makes a difference.
So take time now, this remarkable winter solstice, to commit to being
- more compassionate and righteous of heart;
- more clear and gentle in word;
- more gracious and sensitive in awareness;
- more courageous and prudent in thought;
- more bold and kind in step;
- more generous in love,
Yes let us love excessively because it matters!
It matters
- to yourself;
- to your household;
- to your neighbours;
- to your community;
- to the world because it will cast rays of light and hope across the darkness of the globe and the days will become brighter!

Across the world, there are currently 41.6 million refugees living under the mandates of UNHCR and UNRWA, alongside 9 million asylum seekers, more than 68 million people displaced by conflict within their own countries, and 4.5 million individuals who have been denied a nationality and the basic rights that come with it.

We cry out to God and pray for their safety, dignity and hope.

May our hearts, churches and communities be places of hospitality, compassion and justice, reflecting God's love for all people.

As you begin todayโ€™s prayer, take a moment to be still, to be silent, and to simply breathe. As you breathe in, interiorly say the words: โ€œ๐˜ž๐˜ฆ ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต ๐˜ข๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ ๐˜Š๐˜ฉ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ค๐˜ฉโ€. As you breathe out, interiorly say the words: โ€œ๐˜–๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฅ๐˜บ ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜Š๐˜ฉ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ตโ€.

Do this for about three to five breaths. Feel yourself entering a space of peaceful gratitude born of a deep sense of belonging and connectedness to the body in Christ.

Now, hold these intentions from Jesusโ€™ prayer in John 17: โ€œโ€ฆ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜บ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆโ€ฆ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜บ ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ญ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆโ€ฆ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜บ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜บ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ.โ€ (NRSVUE).

Use the following prayer prompt, adapting it as you feel led:

Go into your day looking for opportunities to share wisdom, presence, and love with those who come across your path.

Lord Jesus, thank you that we are united around our new life in you, which gives us our identity as the body of Christ.

Thank you that we are united around our common mission to make disciples who make disciples, which gives us our purpose.

Thank you for your word in the Bible that teaches us how to function in unity, on mission, as your body in the world.

Father, forgive us where we have disengaged from your mission of making disciples who make disciples because personal preference, the love of control, being married to the method rather than the mission, was more important to us than adapting to reach the next generation. Father, forgive us that the UCA we steward today is so much smaller than what you gave us in 1977.

Father, renew the heart of your body collectively and of its members individually with your love for the lost. May your love be our motivation and what sustains us in your mission in our day.

Holy Spirit, enliven and empower every member across all your local churches as you empowered Jesus Christ.

Enable each member to use their spiritual gifts to love and serve others, so that together we can do all the things Jesus did as he promised us.

Lead us to those people far from God and guide us in our interactions so that they will experience Jesus' saving love, power and grace through us.

Gift and call leaders and teams who can lead the local church in its mission and plant new churches.

Amen.

โ›ช๏ธ Celebrating 49 Years of Unity! โ›ช๏ธ
This Sunday, we are remembering and celebrating the inauguration of the Uniting Church in Australia 49 years ago.
After many years of prayerful discernment, the Congregational Union in Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia, and the Presbyterian Church of Australia came together in the hope that they would โ€œbear witness to that unity which is both Christโ€™s gift and will for the Church.โ€ We take seriously our belief that every member has a part in the ministry of Christโ€”each of us contributes our unique gifts to participating in God's mission. ๐Ÿ™Œ
โœจ This Sunday's Service โœจ
Clive Jewell will be leading our worship, focusing on the concept of the church as one body in Christ that calls us to live in unity. This beautiful unity embraces the incredible diversity of our gifts, positions, backgrounds, and genders.
We would love for you to join us as we celebrate who we are and where we are going together!
