New community support role for Gerringong 💛

Gerringong Uniting Church has created a new Community Support Worker position, appointing local resident Libby Henderson to help identify challenges facing people in the community and turn ideas into practical support.

An early example is the Gezza Kids Holiday Club, which began with one parent's problem and grew into a community effort.

“There is a huge amount of goodwill in this town,” Libby said. “Sometimes you just need to connect the people who want to help with the people who could use a hand.”

It was really lovely to meet with members of the Gerringong Uniting Church who are passionate about supporting refugees fleeing persecution and hardship. Our country of course has a remarkable humanitarian history in welcoming refugees who have gone on to play a vital role in creating businesses, local jobs and in our communities.
It’s also always reassuring to know we have kind and compassionate people in our community always willing to help others.
Thanks to the members of Gerringong Uniting Church for coming and talking with me more as part of the Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce, a taskforce to the National Council of Churches in Australia.
And a big shout-out to all our church constituents doing great advocacy and support work for people in our communities.

Looking for something to do with the little ones on a Friday morning? 🧸☕️

Kids Play at Gerringong Uniting Church is such a lovely little playgroup for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. 💛

There’s plenty of indoor play with different activities and toys, plus an outdoor grassed area with climbing equipment, ride-on cars and chalk when the weather is nice.

The kids get morning tea, parents and carers can enjoy a cuppa, and the volunteers keep the morning fun with singing, dancing and stories. 📚🎶
