Happy World Environment Day!

This morning we woke to a bright sky and the world about us is "proclaiming the glory of God" (Ps 18)! May this beauty we behold break us open to hear the cry of our land and sky, rivers and seas and every living creature great and small, asking us for help...not only to live...but more importantly, to thrive! I love this vision of creation by Joan Chittester:

"Only when we see ourselves, humans, as part of creation, rather than as the crown of creation, will we ever be able to come anywhere close to really grasping the greatness of God and God’s gifts to us. Only then will we begin to see the glowing face of God everywhere. Only then will we begin to understand that we are all meant to come to fullness of life together—plants, animals, planet, and humans in one great reciprocal circle of a common creation."
~ Joan Chittester osb

This year's theme focuses on climate change - on the urgent signals the earth is sending us and the signals we choose to send back. Recently, with so many other problems and difficulties facing us all, the call for climate action has become less urgent. Today is a chance to pause, wonder and commit anew to that "one great reciprocal circle of a common creation."

Whether we are involved in activities for this final day of National Reconciliation Week or simply waking up to another day and wondering how it will unfold, the characteristics of a compassionate life are calling to us. No matter where we are and what we are doing, may giving and receiving be at its heart. And may there be birds!

Monday Morning Reflection for Reconciliation Week

Dreamtime
There's a clear rock pool and shade tree place
where time sits down with those who come to pause a while
and let their spirits drink.
From here the track
heads further out
deeper in
to where time and land and spirit
merge into One -
our big walk's
End, Track and Beginning
Dreamtime ever present here, everywhere,
and with everything.
~ Noel Davis from Campfire of the Heart

This year's theme for Reconciliation is 'All In" with the catch phrase being 'All of us, all in for Reconcilation everyday.'..now that would indeed be "dreamtime ever present here, everywhere, and with everything." May it be so. Amen.

Trinity Sunday
Today, on this beautiful feast day, we celebrate 37 years since the laying and blessing of our foundation stone at Jamberoo Abbey. The actual date of the blessing was 21 May 1989, however, as that date was the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, we always celebrate it each year on Trinity Sunday. It is a day for giving thanks and praise to our triune God and we invite you to join us!

I am bending my knee
In the eye of the Maker who created me,
In the eye of the Son who purchased me,
In the eye of the Spirit who cleansed me,
In friendship and affection.
Through thine own Anointed One, O God,
Bestow upon us fullness in our need,

Love towards God,
The affection of God,
The smile of God,
The wisdom of God,
The grace of God,
The fear of God
And the will of God
To do on the world of the Three,
As angels and saints do in heaven;
Each shade and light,
Each day and night,
Each time in kindness,
Give thou us thy Spirit.
Amen.

A blessing on this last weekend in autumn...

Fun in the sun, rest in the leaves, a faithful companion or two and a good dose of deep contentment!

A Friday blessing in the midst of our busyness...

"What the air is to a bird... and the sea is to a fish... The inner chamber of stillness is to your human soul. Go there often, my friend...It is your natural habitat."
~ Steve McSwain

A poem and a prayer for those of us...

Still Travelling

Where the roar of the jet
and the glow of the afterburner had gone
the geese came next,
calling loudly,
travelling together,
always changing shape.

Wild Spirit,
do not let us be tamed
to a life made only
of straight lines.
May we also travel
like the geese,
sharing the load
enjoying the lift,
calling encouragement:
just flying.

~ Janet Lees, from Tell Me the Stories of Jesus

Yesterday we celebrated the feast of Mary, Help of Christians, patroness of Australia and of the Military Ordinariate.

Ordrinarily 24 May is the date for this feast but it was transferred this year due to Pentecost Sunday which fell on that date.

The Opening Prayer in the liturgy was simple and powerful and even though yet another day late, it's still one we can pray regularly for our country and her peoples as Mary is forever looking over us and out for us!

Almighty God, deepen in our hearts
our love of Mary Help of Christians.
Through her prayers and under her protection,
may the light of Christ shine over our land.
May Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace.
Grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.
Bless especially the men and women
of the Australian Defence Force and their families.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Image ~ Stephen Whatley. This is a modern image of Our Lady Help of Christians which bears the title, "Blessings through Our Lady". The stars and swirls surrounding Mary capture the colours and light of Australia symbolising our multicultural nation and the richness of our land. ...and the tears coming from one of her eyes reminds us that there is much we need to mend and heal...

Mary, our help, be with us in our love for our country, steady us in these uncertain times and bless us in our work for justice, compassion, hope and healing.

Monday Morning Reflection

Still basking in the glow of Pentecost, our Monday reflection continues our prayer for the Spirit to come upon us that we may be bearers of life, peace, hope and joy to our needy world...

On Pentecost

Spirit of courage,
we stand huddled too,
like the disciples in the upper room,
wondering what is real and true anymore.

Reveal to us the pulse of your fire
in each of our hearts
and send us with bread and roses
out into a world
hungry for nourishment.

Bless us with visions of peace;
carry it across every sky
on wings of a dove.
Help us understand one another
so that we might know
our common purpose in love.

Let the winds of change
rush in and upend all our fears.
Empower us for a more
just and loving future
where we dance with your wild grace.
Amen
