Starting tomorrow and throughout November we will have a new series at Border Church looking at the teachings of Calvinism and issues of Sovereignty, Predestination, Election and related issues.

TULIP is the acronym for the five points of Calvinism. Not all Calvinists hold to all these points, but we will examine them all in detail.

T -Total Depravity
U -Unconditional Election
L - Limited Atonement
I - Irresistible Grace
P - Perseverance of the Saints

We will be looking at what is true and what might be overreach in the light of what the Bible actually reveals. This week will be an introduction to the topic and looking at what God's Sovereignty actually means. Today @ Border Church we are joined by Pastor Sue Baynes, pastoral advisor to Gold Coast City Council and Mayor Tom Tate. Sue is passionate about the unity of the Body of Christ and the impact of the Church in the community. Her message is about how we can go from a "me" sense of what we feel is possible to a "we" vision of Church that goes beyond the impossible.

Tomorrow at 10am for Border Church online, we will complete our series on Daniel 9. Join us as we debunk the erroneous "Gap Theory" which divorces the last 7 years from the rest of the prophecy and makes it a "Seven year tribulation". Also join us as we examine the mental gymnastics to try and confuse solar and lunisolar years.

This week @ Border Church we have another recorded message while we continue our community workshops.

This week we actually calculate the 70 weeks prophecy of Daniel 9 and unravel when it starts, when it extends to and all the key milestones along the way. I guarantee everyone will get something out of this presentation. The recording will go live at 10am on Saturday. This Saturday, Border Church continues to run workshops, but you can find our next message online. We are studying through Daniel 9. Last week we looked at the history of interpretation of this passage and its place as one of the most significant prophecies in the Bible, giving the exact timing of Jesus.

Before we get to the actual ways of counting down this prophecy, we will look at the actual message of the passage. What is the meaning of the prayer that begins this chapter, and what is the purpose of the prophecy. Join me at 10am this Saturday for an intimate chat. This will stream on Facebook and YouTube.

Daniel 9, Messianic Hourglass - 1. Cursed Countdown

This week I had some trouble with scheduling our online message while Border Church shifts into Service September. We are starting a 4-part series on Daniel chapter 9. These are more casual conversations than sermons and I won't prepare specific notes but will be discussing the text in detail, taking questions from the comments in the coming weeks. This week @ Border Church

We have special guest speaker former QANTAS Captain Graham "Hoody" Hood bringing us a message of "When God Opens the Door". Graham Hood has spoken to hundreds of thousands of Australians about the Gospel and the freedom Christ brings to our lives.

After Church we have a free, healthy, plant-based community lunch for those wishing to stay and join us for conversations with Hoody.

What the Hell? Bonus 10th Sermon | When Hell Freezes Over

This week we have a bonus study related to our series on Hell. This message will explore the teaching of Restorationism/Universalism that all beings will eventually be saved. To be honest, this is a teaching that truly reflects the will of God and it should be the shared will of all believers in God. However, there is more than just the will of God to consider, so we will look at the wider perspective and how to view the matter. Restorationism/Universalism is a reaction to the extreme traditional view of hell that portrays God as a tyrant but is not without its own dangers when we look at the Biblical and philosophical implications of what it teaches. Join us as we explore this issue.

Today at Border Church we conclude our series, "What the Hell: The Nine Sermons", looking at life, death and the afterlife. In this finale we will explore what the Bible says about the fate of the wicked. Last time we looked at the resurrection of the redeemed at the second coming and the resurrection of the lost at the end of the millennium. This week we turn to look at the second death and the lake of fire and what it looks like.

Are the lost going to be tortured forever or will they be consumed? Do atheists and agnostics have a point when they highlight the discrepancy of a God of love who would consign billions to an eternity of suffering for a single lifetime of sin?
What is Gehenna?
What is outer darkness?
What is the eternal, unquenchable fire?
What is the torment that will impact the wicked?

We will look at the expressions in Scripture that seem to indicate a never-ending torment and find that they are not so conclusive as they seem. Join us as we vindicate the character of God in the final judgement!
