Last Sunday we looked at John 8:2-11, the story of the woman caught in adultery, alongside Titus 3:4-7. Faithful preaching has to declare the whole counsel of God, both the hard truths about sin and the overwhelming truth of grace, and this story sits right in the middle of that grace.

Grace is unmerited favour, not something we earn. Titus reminds us God saved us because of His mercy, not our righteousness. That grace is fully embodied in Jesus.

The woman is dragged before Jesus by religious leaders looking to trap Him, the man involved conveniently nowhere in sight. Instead of taking the bait, Jesus stoops down to write in the dirt, then says, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first." One by one, the accusers walk away.

Alone with Jesus, she hears two things that change everything: "Neither do I condemn you" and "Go and sin no more." Jesus never minimises her sin, but His grace covers it completely. That grace forgives and it transforms.

The invitation is simple: no matter how deep your sin runs, Jesus' grace runs deeper. But it has to be received, and it's never meant to be abused.

Sunday’s Sermon Recap 🌱

On Sunday we dug into Ephesians 4:1-16, the turning point in Paul's letter. After three chapters on what God has done for us, chosen, redeemed, forgiven, sealed with the Spirit, Paul turns to what that means for how we live. We're called to walk worthy of that calling.

That looks like humility, gentleness, patience, and working to keep unity, because unity takes real effort. Pastor Mark also talked about spiritual gifts: every believer has one, not to compare or compete, but to build up the church together. Pastors equip, but every believer is a minister.
The goal is maturity, growing into the fullness of Christ so we're not shaken by false teaching, so we speak truth in love, and the whole body grows together.

That's who we're trying to be at Hunter Life Church: a church that loves like Jesus, grows together, and reaches out through unity, maturity, and truth.

Sunday Recap 🎉

Pastor Leanne walked us through Romans 12 - where after eleven chapters unpacking God's mercy, our sin, grace, justification, and life in the Spirit, Paul says therefore. Because of everything God has already done, this is how we now live. Not earning mercy, but responding to it.

Paul calls us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice. Worship isn't just what we sing, it's what we surrender. Our habits, relationships, ambitions, and choices all belong on the altar. God doesn't ask for our lives to take something from us, He asks so He can give us life abundantly.

We're also called to be transformed by renewing our minds. The world shapes us through fear, comparison, and pride, but Scripture, prayer, worship, and community reshape how we think so we can actually discern God's will.

Paul reminds us that every gift is given by grace, not earned, and every person in the church matters. And real love, the kind Paul describes, is sincere and costly. It shares, forgives, and chooses mercy over revenge.

Something fresh is stirring. Can you sense it?

Over recent weeks the Holy Spirit has been awakening and resetting something in our midst - calling us into a new season.

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" — Isaiah 43:19

Sometimes our spiritual oil grows stale. Routine sets in. Passion fades. But God never leaves His people in stale places. He offers fresh oil, fresh fire, fresh calling.
Revelation 3 gives us a loving but honest wake up call. Jesus rebukes not to shame us but to awaken us. He's after our hearts.

Even embers can burn again. Even hearts that feel stuck can be revived. The alarm is sounding to rouse you, not frighten you.

Last week Johnny walked us through pursuing peace and guarding our hearts so no bitter root takes hold. It's easy to assume we're walking well with God because we're reading, praying, and serving, while offence, jealousy, or comparison quietly grow underneath.

Johnny shared a personal moment of conviction around self righteousness, and how comparison is often at the root of it. When we measure ourselves against others, we end up judging, copying, or believing we can earn what's actually a gift.

The turning point was Ephesians 3, where Christ dwelling in our hearts is what produces good fruit, not our performance. We're saved by grace, and no one is more saved than anyone else. That truth is what makes real unity possible.
We were reminded to reject envy and offence, and instead walk in forgiveness and humility. When a church pursues peace together, prayer gets stronger and authenticity grows.

Sunday Recap: Philippians 3:1-16

This week we sat with Paul's warning to the Philippian church. He was blunt about teachers who wanted to add human effort onto grace. Jesus plus anything isn't a fuller gospel. It ruins the gospel. Paul had every reason to boast in his own record, yet he called it all rubbish next to actually knowing Christ. Knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus are not the same thing.

We also looked at Jeremiah 14, where Israel admitted their sin during a drought but never really repented. They tried to manage how God looked rather than let Him change their hearts. Owning a mistake out loud can feel like repentance when our hearts haven't actually moved.

We talked through the shift from the Old Covenant, built on external obedience and repeated sacrifice, to the New Covenant, where we're changed from the inside through Christ's finished work and the Spirit living in us. That grace was never meant to make us casual about sin.

Paul ends this section describing the Christian life as a race run with humility, not looking back, eyes locked on the goal. Our home is heaven, and that should shape how we live now.
