Title: LORD, TEACH US HOW TO PRAY
_Luke 11:1_
_"One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, 'Lord, teach us to pray...'"_

WHY DO WE NEED TO PRAY?
BECAUSE:

1. It is a Command
_Luke 18:1_ — "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."
_1 Thessalonians 5:17_ — "Pray continually."
God didn’t suggest prayer. He commanded it. Obedience starts on our knees.

2. It is a Strategy for Fellowship with God
_1 Corinthians 1:9_ — "God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful."
_1 Corinthians 14:2_ — "For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God."
Prayer is not duty. It’s relationship. It’s talking with our Father.

3. It is a Platform for Growth and Transformation
_Luke 9:28-29_ — "As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed..."
_Isaiah 56:7_ — "...for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."
In prayer we are changed. Our face, our heart, our perspective. Prayer is where God transforms us.

4. So that we have the Spirit of Discernment
_Luke 11:1_ — The disciples saw Jesus’ prayer life and wanted that same power and direction.
Prayer sharpens us to hear God and know His will. Without prayer we are easily deceived.

> Note: It’s not just about praying, but about _knowing why_ you are praying.

THE RULES/PRINCIPLES OF PRAYER
From _The Lord’s Prayer - Matthew 6:9-13, Luke 11:2-4_

1. "Our Father in heaven"
_Psalm 65:2_ — "You who answer prayer, to you all people will come."
We pray to God alone because He hears and answers. He is our Father, not a stranger.

2. Humble yourself before the Lord
_Matthew 6:5_ — "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites..."
Don’t pray to impress people. No pride. Come surrendered. _James 4:10_

3. Pray for the Will of God to be done
_Luke 22:42_ — "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
Our prayers must align with God’s purpose, not just our wants.

4. We cannot afford NOT to pray
_1 Peter 5:8_ — "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."
_Revelation 12:10_ — "...the accuser of our brothers and sisters..."
The devil never sleeps. If we don’t pray, we become an easy target.

Closing Charge:
Jesus’ disciples didn’t ask Him "Teach us to preach" or "Teach us to do miracles."
They said "Teach US to PRAY" because they knew prayer was the source.

_Church, let us be a people of prayer. Not empty words, but intentional, humble, God-aligned prayer._

Offertory Word with Pastor Nkosi

The Scripture: Matthew 21:18-19
_"Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, 'May you never bear fruit again!' Immediately the tree withered."_

The Message: "What kind of tree are you?"

Jesus wasn’t just talking about a tree. He was talking about us and our lives.

1. God expects fruit, not just leaves
The tree looked good. It had leaves. But no fruit.
God doesn’t just want us to _look_ Christian, come to church, and say the right things. He wants _fruit_ — changed lives, love, generosity, service. An offering without a changed heart is just leaves.

2. Fruitfulness is the proof of life
A living tree bears fruit. A dead tree doesn’t.
When we are connected to Jesus, the True Vine, we will bear fruit in every area: in our family, work, business, ministry, and finances.

3. Seasons matter — but excuses don’t
It was “not the season for figs” but Jesus still expected something. God calls us to be fruitful even in hard seasons. Even when it’s tough financially, emotionally, spiritually — we can still bear fruit of faith, peace, and giving. Don’t wait for “the right season” to be a blessing.

4. Be fruitful so you can be helpful
Fruit is not just for the tree. It feeds others. Your fruit of kindness feeds someone. Your fruit of generosity funds the work of God. Your fruit of wisdom helps another person. We are blessed to be a blessing. That’s why we give offerings — so God’s work can bear fruit through us too.

Offering Prayer
_"Father, as we give today, examine us like that fig tree. Don’t let us just have leaves. Make us fruitful. Fruitful in our homes, fruitful in our work, fruitful in our giving. Let this offering be fruit that remains and helps others. In Jesus’ name. Amen."
