21 What we need today is not a lot of material things. We have that. We don’t need greater churches. We don’t need greater congregations. We don’t need more on radio and on television. We don’t need so many more of these things. But what we need today, to be spiritual, is a person that will humble themselves before God, if they haven’t got a penny, and will pray till that spirit within them is satisfied with the goodness of God, and a revival takes place on the inside of their heart, that changes their attitudes and atmosphere that they live in.

22 You might not have a pair of shoes on your feet, you might be dressed in rags, but something in your heart singing the melodies of God. I’d rather have it than all the money in the world.

200 I stood not long ago, by the shrine, where they turned them hounds loose, that day when he was preaching the—the new birth, and so forth, and that. 31 And some of you people that don’t go to church, shame on you. Go to church about once a year and that’s on Easter to show your pretty hat…That’s right.

But you know what? You…God deserves the first place. Jesus ought to have the first place in every life. But we give Him about the fourth place. He deserves the first place. Well, you say, “I pray once a day.” That’s all right. He receives it. If you want to give Him fourth place, that’s all right, He will take it. You only went to church once this year, maybe, and wore the new hat and everything, but He never condemned you for it. That’s what makes Him God to me. If you want to give Him fourth place or fifth place, He will take it. He will take anything you give Him, but He ought to have the first place. He ought to have the best we can give. He ought to have our first, our best, our all. He’s deserving of it.

A TRUE SIGN THAT'S OVERLOOKED 61-1112

142 Isn’t it strange that God wants the people to have part into it? When Jesus looked out upon the harvest, He said, “The harvest is ripe. The laborers are few. You pray the Lord of the harvest,” that was Him. “You pray to Me, that I’ll send laborers into My harvest.” Is some part you have to do. God is waiting for His Church to call on Him. He’s always did it. God is waiting today for the people to call His servant into action. And the servant can’t get into action till the people prays.

143 Israel could not get into action down there, with signs and wonders, until they fell on their face and prayed for a deliverer. God had His deliverer. God had a prophet hanging up there in the wilderness, kept him there for forty years, waiting for them to get right, to pray. But when they got right and started praying, then God sent the deliverer.

*God will do the same thing today, if the people would just get together, get to praying. All right.*

228 And then, God set some in the Church to pray for the sick, God set some in the Church to teach, some to be different things. Is that right? He does that, and through this He gives different gifts, sometimes, to people, that don’t have nothing to do with it, not a thing with your soul salvation.

If you’ve met God’s requirements, and in your heart you believe that He is, God is only testing your faith, for He loves to do that. Then faith holds onto it, not knowing what it’s all about, but it knows that He is, and it’s certain that He is.

119 In Germany, once, I saw a picture, and it always stuck with me. A German painter has painted the…a picture that’s—that’s called “The Cloud Land.” And when you see it, off at a distance, it’s the horriblest-looking gloom you ever seen. Just clouds matted together, when you’re looking at it from a long distance. But when you get real close to it, it changes. It’s Angels’ wings beating together, singing hallelujahs to the Lord. So that’s what gloom is sometime. If you look at it, a long distance, it looks gloomy and dark. But take God at His Word and be certain that He’s God, and move up close to it, you’ll find out it’s just Angels’ wings a-beating together.

147 Lean not to your own understanding. If you lean on your own understanding today when you are sick, maybe sitting in a wheel chair, dying with cancer, heart trouble, and the doctor says you’re going to die, if you lean to that understanding, you’ll die. But don’t lean to that understanding. Certainly not.

148 What about at the walls of Jericho, that they say they could run a chariot race around the top of them, them great big walls? God said, “Go up there and march around it so many times, and sound a trumpet and all of you let out a shout, and the wall is going to fall down.” Well, that was, absolutely, would be silly to the carnal mind. But Joshua, knowing how thick those walls was, ’cause he had built plenty of walls down in Egypt. He knowed the cement that was in them, how tight they were, to hold them chariot races on top, and even houses built on top of it. But he didn’t lean to his own understanding. He believed what God said was the truth, and obeyed His Word, and the walls fell down.

The only way to be positive sure of this night church, is to go back and see what kind of a faith that they had to contend for. And then we should earnestly contend for that type of faith. For what is sin? Sin is one thing: “unbelief.” That’s right. You couldn’t say how much of that is night. It’s all night. And in the daytime you couldn’t say just this much is day. It’s all day.

Jesus said, “He that believeth not is condemned already.” Faith in God and unbelief that’s the two things. One is sin and the other one is salvation.

41[ ] If God made a promise, God’s got to stand behind His promise. And if He won’t do it, then His promise is not no good, then He—His Word’s like mine. But God will stand behind it, if you’ll stand behind God. If you’ll dare to step out there and take Him at His Word, He will do it.

Now, put your faith in Him tonight, in Calvary, and look to Him, and believe it. And now, I believe if He will; I don’t say He will; I don’t know; He’s God. If He will return tonight and show the very same signs right here in this audience of people here where we are setting, if He will show the very same signs that He did when He was here on earth, that’ll be infallible proof that He has raised from the dead. Is that right? Infallible proof…Shall we pray.

67 Reminds me of a story of the Lord Jesus, that’s found in the Book of Luke. You know when He was just a boy of about twelve years old, His people taken Him, as the custom was each year, up to the feast of Pentecost. And while they were in the city of Jerusalem at the feast and having a good time, we find in the Bible, that they went three days without Him. And that they thought maybe, just took it for granted, that Jesus must have been among some of their kinfolks. Now, we cannot do that. When they come to go through their kinfolks to find out, He wasn’t there.

68 And we can’t take it for granted, just because we’re Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Pentecost, and our backgrounds and our forefathers were great believers, we just take it, well, for granted, Jesus is with us. We can’t do that. We’ve got to be in contact with Him every day and every minute. Oh, I love that.

72[ ] That’s what religion ought to be. The Coming of the Lord is at hand. The church ought to be moving on into their powers. [...] I feel ashamed of myself when I look out here and see the institutions, and the sickness, and the troubles that’s going on right now. Our church ought to be walking the street, healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out devils, doing signs and wonders, making the whole world realize that Jesus Christ lives. That’s what we need to be doing.

74 Where do they find Him? Where did—where did they find Jesus? Right where they left Him. Where did they leave Him? At the feast of Pentecost. Where do we leave Jesus, where did the church? At the feast of Pentecost. When we get away from that old time Pentecostal power and the feast of Pentecost, we walk away from Jesus. That’s exactly right, friend. We are living under our privileges. Yes, sir.

75 They left Him at the feast of Pentecost, and there’s the only place that Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, and Pentecostals will ever find Him, is go back where you left Him at. Where is the joy of the Lord? Where is the power of the Lord? The church asks today, “What—what happened to the God of history?” He’s waiting for His people to call Him on the scene.

77 What we need is not education. We need the power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost back in the church to demonstrate the power. Jesus never said, “Go into all the world and—and teach.” He never said, “Go into all the world and do…” He said, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel.” And the Gospel is to demonstrate the power of the Holy Ghost, the resurrection. We’re still a million miles short than where we should be. Let us move forward. Let’s go back where we left Him at the feast of Pentecost.

33 [ ] the wise Solomon told us that, “not to lean to it, not to our own understanding; learn not of these things.” Because, we wonder why that he would say such a thing as this, for it’s because that usually our modern understanding is usually the wisdom of man, which is contrary to the Word of God.

138 Abraham, he did not lean to his understanding about human life. He had married his wife at about seventeen years old. Here he was, seventy-five years old, and she was sixty-five years old, being ten years younger. But Abraham did not lean to his understanding, when God said that He would give him a son by Sarah. But he called anything, any scientific proof that was contrary to God’s Word, any learning outside of God’s Word, as though it wasn’t so. And he give God praise, strong, giving Him praise. He did not even consider looking at his own body or the deadness of Sarah’s body, or—or his body. He did not consider anything, but leaned upon the promise of God. He leaned not upon his own understanding. He leaned not upon reasons.

142 What if Moses would have leaned to his own understanding, when God told him that he was to—to take Pharaoh…or the children of Israel out of Pharaoh’s hand? What if he would have leaned to his own understanding, when he was there by the Pillar of Fire, when God said, “Go down and I’ll be with you”? What if he would have leaned to his understanding when he brought them to the Red Sea, and there they was at the water, and here God had promised them the promised land? What if he would have leaned to his own understanding, “How am I going to get across there? We haven’t time to build a bridge. Here is the army coming right behind us. Here is the mountains on either side. Here is the water in front of us, the Red Sea”?

144 But he leaned not to his own understanding. But he prayed, and God told him to step forward, and the sea opened up, which was against all reasonings. But he leaned not to his own understanding.

126[ ] “We cast down reasonings.” We believe God, no matter what anything else says. We believe God. We don’t reason what God says. You can’t reason with It. You have to accept It by faith. N EXPOSITION OF THE SEVEN CHURCH AGES (4 - THE SMYRNAEAN CHURCH AGE )
CONDITIONS OF THE AGE

Why does He stand by? The reason is in Romans 8:17-18, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Unless we suffer with Him we cannot reign with Him. You have to suffer to reign. The reason for this is that character simply is never made without suffering. Character is a VICTORY, not a gift. A man without character can’t reign because power apart from character is Satanic. But power with character is fit to rule. And since He wants us to share even His throne on the same basis that He overcame and is set down in His Father’s throne, then we have to overcome to sit with Him. And the little temporary suffering we go through now is not worthy to be compared to the tremendous glory that will be revealed in us when He comes. Oh, what treasures are laid up for those who are willing to enter into His kingdom through much tribulation.

183 When looks like everything has gone wrong, God is giving you a trial. He’s got confidence in you. He don’t have to baby you around. You’re not a hotbed plant, a hybrid. You’re a real Christian. 101 Now, sometimes these great pulsations of faith come right in the time of crisis. It’s usually crisis that drives us into this. It was a crisis that drove Job into it. Why, he was at the end of his life. His children was dead; his camels. And all of his goods was gone and destroyed. And his own life, he was broke out from the crown of his head to the soles of his feet with boils. It was a crisis, that he pressed hisself, there’s where the inspiration struck him.
