WHY DID JESUS MAKE MUD TO HEAL THE BLIND MAN?

Jesus healed many people simply by speaking a word.

He told the paralytic, "Rise, take up your bed and walk" (John 5:8). He spoke, and Lazarus came out of the tomb (John 11:43–44). He healed the centurion's servant from a distance with only His word (Matthew 8:5–13).

So why, in John 9, did Jesus suddenly spit on the ground, make mud, place it on a blind man's eyes, and tell him to wash in the Pool of Siloam?

Was there something special about the mud?

The Bible never says the mud itself had healing power. Instead, the miracle points to several profound spiritual truths.

1. JESUS WAS REVEALING HIMSELF AS THE CREATOR.

John 9:6 says:

"After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes."

Why use dust from the ground?

Genesis 2:7 tells us that God formed man from the dust of the earth and breathed into him the breath of life.

By taking dust and giving sight to eyes that had never seen, Jesus was demonstrating the same creative power that belonged to the Creator in Genesis. He wasn't merely repairing damaged eyes—He was showing that He could create what had never functioned before.

This was a declaration that the One who formed Adam from dust was standing before them.

2. THE MIRACLE REQUIRED OBEDIENCE.

Jesus didn't tell the man, "You're healed."

Instead, He said:

"Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam." (John 9:7)

The blind man had to trust Jesus enough to walk through the streets with mud covering his eyes until he reached the pool.

His healing came as he obeyed.

God often attaches miracles to acts of faith. Noah built the ark before the rain. Naaman washed seven times in the Jordan before his leprosy disappeared (2 Kings 5:10–14). The walls of Jericho fell after Israel obeyed God's unusual instructions (Joshua 6).

The mud wasn't magical. Obedience unlocked what Jesus had already promised.

Then appears a great red dragon, seven-headed, ten-horned, with a sweeping tail, ready to devour the child as soon as it is born. The Bible says this dragon is Satan (Revelation 12:9). Yes, this is the enemy, not a symbol or mere allegory, but the real spiritual being who opposes God and seeks to destroy His plan.

The dragon’s description is filled with spiritual truth. His red color represents the violence and bloodshed he has caused throughout history. The seven heads and ten horns are not random, they signify his extensive authority in this world, the kingdoms he influences, and the deceptive powers he controls. His tail sweeping a third of the stars of heaven shows how he has pulled angels into rebellion, creating a spiritual army that continues to fight against God’s plan on earth.

Yet, here is the first shocking truth many do not realize: this is not just ancient history. This battle is ongoing. Every day, the dragon schemes to devour what God is birthing in your life. Every dream, every vision, every purpose God has placed in your heart is targeted. The persecution of the woman and the attack against her child represents the ongoing attacks on the church and the Messiah’s mission. This is spiritual warfare unfolding before our eyes.

Before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, there was a war in heaven. 🐉 Satan knew the Messiah was coming through Israel, and he waited like a dragon to devour the child the moment He was born. From Herod's slaughter of the innocents to the crucifixion, the dragon tried to destroy the man child who would rule all nations. But he failed. The child was caught up to God's throne. And the dragon's rage turned toward the woman—Israel.
"And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. The woman is Israel (the sun, moon, and twelve stars match Joseph's dream in Genesis 37:9). The dragon is Satan (verse 9 confirms it). The man child is Jesus—born of Israel, destined to rule with a rod of iron (Psalm 2:9), crucified, resurrected, and ascended to God's throne. ✝️ The dragon's tail swept a third of the stars (angels) from heaven—Lucifer's rebellion that cast one-third of the angels down as demons. And now, in the tribulation, the dragon persecutes Israel for 1,260 days, but God protects the remnant. This is the cosmic backstory of history. Satan vs. the Seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15). The dragon tried to stop the Messiah. He failed. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God. And when He returns, the dragon will be bound for 1,000 years and then cast into the lake of fire forever. The war is real.

THE EYES THAT WATCH THE UNIVERSE. 👁️🦅

When the Apostle John was caught up in the spirit, he saw the control room of creation. Surrounding the eternal throne were not gentle messengers, but four terrifying "Living Creatures."

These entities are completely covered in eyes, front and back, seeing the past, present, and future simultaneously. The first resembles a lion (representing wild beasts), the second an ox (domesticated beasts), the third has the face of a man (humanity), and the fourth is like a flying eagle (birds of the air).
