Two years ago our church leaders were very involved in the academic component of the Southern Africa School of Missions. They taught (with other teachers) the New Testament Survey Module in Johannesburg. In their words, "Engaging with young people who love God, His Word and His people so much is inspiring and faith-building".

Our view of God shapes our lives, including how we view and use all that God has entrusted to us as His stewards. Our view of God is shaped to a large extent by our relationship with our fathers. If our father was largely absent, very strict or very permissive, we will tend to see God in that way. This week, we reflected on our lesson from the previous week, titled 'The Theology of Money'. These group discussions were facilitated by some Workshop Questions:

1. In what ways do you think you are a good steward of what God has entrusted to you?
2. How would you like to improve your stewardship of what God has entrusted you with?
3. Summarise how generous giving helps us to be formed into Christ.

Materialism (the belief that buying and having possessions is not just important, but a key to happiness in life) is on the rise all over the world, including in developing economies. More and more people are looking for happiness in the amount of money and things they own.

This lesson covers three principles about money that God wants us to know and apply: (1) He owns everything and we are simply His stewards, (2) giving is God’s cure for materialism and (3) giving helps us become more like Jesus and helps unlock the abundant life that he offers.

Last Sunday, we learnt how dysfunction is like a gift that keeps on giving, and in this lesson, we learnt how we can be the generation that breaks the cycle.

Breaking the cycle requires growing in self-awareness,including knowing our life-traps (schemas) that have programmed us to behave in certain ways. We also need to be vulnerable to enable others to help us, and to learn to forgive when we are hurt.

The fallen state of our world means that we all have some dysfunction that affects us in many ways, including in how we raise children. This lesson describes three types of dysfunction that Abraham and Sarah passed down to their children and to two more generations after them, namely favouritism, poor handling of conflict, and hostility between siblings.
