You had your quiet time.
You read your Bible.
You prayed.
You worshipped.
And then 9am happened. 😂

Suddenly the verse is gone, the patience has gone, and apparently three taxi drivers have personally offended you.

Doug’s point on Sunday was actually much deeper than our ability to survive the morning commute.

We need the grace of God throughout the whole day.
Following Jesus isn’t a once-a-day refuel before we head off into life.

We need Him at breakfast.
At 9am.
In the traffic.
In the meeting.
In the parenting.
In the disappointment.
In the ordinary bits of Tuesday afternoon.

The Christian life is one of ongoing dependence.

So if your beautiful morning with Jesus evaporated somewhere between breakfast and 9am...

You’re not uniquely terrible at this.
You’re human. 😉

And you are deeply, desperately in need of grace.

What has your attention?

Not just on Sunday.
Not just during your quiet time.

What gets your thoughts when you’re bored?

What do you reach for when you’re anxious?

What occupies your mind when you should be sleeping?

What gets the best of your affection?

Because, as Doug reminded us on Sunday:

“You will either be changed by gazing on Jesus, or you will be changed by whatever else has your affection and your attention.”

We are all being shaped by something.

The question isn’t whether we’re being formed.
It’s what we’re being formed by.

The good news is that Jesus doesn’t simply tell us to try harder.

His Spirit is at work in us, and He has given us His Word so that we can keep looking at Him, knowing Him, and becoming more like Him.

In the beholding, there is a becoming.

What has your affection?
What has your attention?

It's so easy to spend our lives chasing recognition.

Wanting to be noticed.
Wanting to be successful.
Wanting to build something that points back to us.

But the gospel gently reorients our hearts.

Our lives were never meant to revolve around our own glory.

They were always meant to reflect His.

And strangely, that's where true freedom begins.

Because when life stops being about proving ourselves, we're free to enjoy the One who made us and to point others towards Him.

May our prayer this week simply be:

“Lord, make much of Your name through my life."

The gospel is a story of transformation.

Isaiah begins with four heartbreaking words:

”Woe is me.”

Overwhelmed by God’s holiness, he becomes painfully aware of his own brokenness.

But that’s not where the story ends.

God meets him with grace.

His guilt is removed.
His sin is atoned for.
His identity is restored.

And only then does Isaiah respond:

“Here I am. Send me.”

Grace changes everything.

It doesn’t just forgive us. It transforms us.

One of the greatest dangers for Christians isn’t always doubt.

Sometimes it’s familiarity.

We’ve heard the stories.
We know the verses.
We can explain the gospel...
..and yet our hearts slowly stop being amazed by it.

This Sunday, Dave reminded us that the answer isn’t to manufacture more emotion.

It’s to look at Jesus again.

To behold His grace until we’re reminded of who He is, what He’s done, and why His grace truly is amazing.

If your heart feels a little cold, or if the wonder of the gospel has become familiar, perhaps this is your invitation to simply sit with Jesus again.

Because the more clearly we see Him, the more our hearts are moved to worship. 🤍

Jesus doesn’t leave us with the option of simply calling Him “a good teacher.”

If Jesus really is who He claimed to be, then He deserves more than our admiration.

He deserves our trust.

Our worship.

Our whole lives.

Every one of us has to answer the same question:

Who is Jesus to me?

Not simply in theory.
Not as an interesting historical figure.

But personally.

Following Jesus was never meant to be a solo journey.

In this week’s sermon, Dave reminds us that while our faith is deeply personal, it was never meant to be private. God doesn’t simply save us from something… He saves us into something: His family.

We all need people who will remind us of truth when we forget it.
Who will pray with us when we’re weary.
Who will celebrate with us in seasons of joy.
Who will carry us when life feels heavy.

The Church isn’t just a place we attend.

It’s a people we belong to.

If you’ve been trying to do faith on your own, let this be your invitation to take one small step toward community. Whether that’s joining a Community Group, lingering a little longer over coffee after the service, or simply introducing yourself to someone new, don’t underestimate what God can do through faithful friendships.

Few words carry more weight than the cry of Jesus from the cross:

"My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Because Jesus was forsaken, those who trust in Him never will be.

Whatever this week holds...
Whatever burden you’re carrying...
Whatever season you’re walking through...

God has not abandoned you.

His presence isn’t earned by your performance.
His faithfulness isn’t dependent on your circumstances.

In Christ, you are never alone.

Our world spends a lot of time asking questions like:

“What should I do with my life?”
“What’s my purpose?”
“How do I make an impact?”

But before Jesus ever asks us to do something for Him, He invites us to belong to Him.

The gospel begins with identity before activity.
Grace before effort.
Belonging before serving.

Because when we know whose we are, it changes how we live.

Our identity is no longer built on our performance, our success, or what others think of us.

It’s built on what Jesus has already accomplished for us.

The Bible isn’t simply a book to read.

It’s an invitation to know the God who loves you.

Sometimes we can approach Scripture as though it’s about gathering more information, ticking off another reading plan, or finding the “right answer.”

But God’s Word was never meant to stay in our heads.

It’s meant to shape our hearts.

To correct us.
To encourage us.
To reveal Jesus.
To transform the way we live.

As we spend time in His Word, we’re not just learning about God...

We’re learning to walk with Him.
